    1. Re: Posting to the list
    2. Bud, I suppose posting to the list is a subject line, but respectively, we're all aware that if somebody posts to the lists it is a topic. With due respect and consideration, you don't seem to get it. Genealogy mail lists are for and about people seeking information - dates, etc. We've been considerate that you and several others like to banter back and forth but it takes away from others who are not interested in your personal banterring. Let's not get defensive. As in any other news group or msg board, if one wants to continue a dialogue with another it can be done via private email on a personal level and not require the attention and time of maybe hundreds of others. I for one have a personal interest in this area and expect it to be conducted in a manner that Rootsweb would most likely be compatable with. This is by far not the first time, though, that I've considered unsubscribing to this list for it's nonproductiveness. PLEASE stick with genealogy, and otherwise, keep it off the msg board. Marilyn

    3. In reply to the message below... I do appreciate it when answers to questions are posted to the list. Often times I wonder the same thing or am researching a similar line. If we posted to the list it would save the two or three other people from having to reask for the info. Just a suggestion... I will try to post Non-genealogical info privately from now on so as to not clog the list. 2. I also would like to see the listmembers still be able to relate to each other in a more personal manner and me not lose out because (especially being webtv and maybe being able to receive no more emails if I don't delete these almost daily) I would like to see the subject line better utilized and maybe Ann and others will investigate chat room or other avenues to continue relating personally. I enjoy and respect this mail list and don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings either. Thanks group.

    2. Jim Hawes
    3. Dear Ann & List... I am clearing some 50 messages from Johnson County each day and they are related to what I am not sure. This is not an attack but rather a suggestion that a chat room be established where we can visit real time. Some of you are on AOL and have visited their genealogy chat areas. I know I have and they are great. Perhaps ANN can set something like this up through Rootsweb or another free service. I encourage each of you to change the heading to "non genealogical" or something similar for us who just don't have the time to filter through the "10-4 good buddy reply's". With hopes of productive change and, Wishing each of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Millennium..... 3. Marilyn, Thanks for the reply. I grew up with the Jimmy I mentioned - - his family lived next door to my aunt and uncle and we attended school together. Today he lives a few houses from my parents. He is a dead ringer for the singer Kenny Rogers. I grew up in Northern CA, graduated from High School and College (UC, Berkeley and Cal State Hayward) and was commishioned in the US Army. I was an Army "warrior" for five years during Vietnam, lived in Germany for a few as a civilian employee of the Army and then settled here in Northern VA where I have worked for the Defense Dept. since 1976. Every time I tried to move back home, they made me an offer I couldn't refuse, or there were children to consider, or, there was another offer I couldn't refuse, yadda yadda yadda. The wife and I are both westerners, the kids are grown and I don't see any big promotions on the horizon, so we retire in 4 to 5 yrs. At this time we see Northern Nevada (Carson Valley) as our target. The climate is good, living is affordable, no state income tax, and we can drive to my parent's home in the bay area in 4 to 5 hours if need be. CA just has too many - - people, laws, taxes, costs, and "way out of the box" thinkers. Merry Christmas, Bill Mattheis -----Original Message----- From: Marilyn Chesney [mailto:mchesney@pe.net] Sent: Thursday, December 16, 1999 3:41 PM To: KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Last Name of Chesney Bill, Actually, my husband's name is James - Jim, "Jimmy." I don't think we're related to any other Chesneys here in Calif. My husband's parents came to the United States from Hungary, and their last name was Csaszni. Over the years, it became Chasni, Chasney, and then Chesney. We went to Hungary a few years ago - Jim had never been there. His dad had several brothers and a sister, and we searched for relatives but couldn't locate any. We did locate and go to the church where his parents were married. ....Marilyn Daniel Chesney -----Original Message----- From: Mattheis, William G <Mattheis.Bill@HQ.NAVY.MIL> To: KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com <KYJOHNSO-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, December 16, 1999 11:44 AM Subject: RE: Clark County, Ohio >Marilyn, > >Are you related to any other Chesney's in CA?
