Thanks for the entry from the Lawrence Marriage Register. I guess this means that Peter Skaggs was single. This could possibly be her brother, Peter Skaggs or her father who may have been widowed by then. Gail Williams Pierce
There's an entry for Henry Riggsby, age 19, b. Lawrence Co., Ky., at Lewis Rigsby's, m. 16 Jan 1853 to Nancy Skaggs, of Lawrence Co., Ky, age 19, b. at Peter Skaggs in Lawrence Co., Ky, single, by Walter Osburn. This is in the Lawrence Co., Kentucky Marriage Register Volume No. 1 & 2, 1822-1859, compiled by Opal Mae "Hughes" Muncy and Bennett W. Muncy.
Hi again! I have from Early Marriages in Lawrence County, KY: SKAGGS, Nancy to RIGGSBY, Henry 6/16/1853 also SKAGGS, Peter to PRINCE, Cleruda (which I assume was meant to be Clarinda) 3/20/1823 Gail
Gail according to Travis Long who says he has the whole family tree back 6 0r 7 generations You were correct in that Grandma Flora mother was Nancy Skaggs and her mother was Clorinda Prince Skaggs. I hope he will start participating soon but he is a pilot and is really busy right now. Hello Everyone, I got this on another list and thought it was great. Also thought all of you would appreciate it. Faith STRANGERS IN THE BOX (Author Unknown) Come, look with me inside this drawer, In this box I've often seen, At the pictures, black and white, Faces proud, still, and serene. I wish I knew the people, These strangers in the box, Their names and all their memories, Are lost among my socks. I wonder what their lives were like, How did they spend their days? What about their special times? I'll never know their ways. If only someone had taken time, To tell, who, what, where, and when, These faces of my heritage, Would come to life again. Could this become the fate, Of the pictures we take today? The faces and the memories, Someday to be passed away? Take time to save your stories, Seize the opportunity when it knocks, Or someday you and yours, Could be strangers in the box.
Dee: Sorry, I should have sent that message to Sharon. She had invited us to see her photographs and to even use one to send a card to ourselves for practice. When I opened her album, there were pictures of the town in which I was born. Very old pictures, probably from before I was even born. That's old!!!!! Bud
Sharon, Who is this Proctor Knott? I live in Lebanon, Kentucky on Governor Proctor Knott's farm. Is your husband grandparent related to this Proctor Knott? Bud, Somehow I missed what you are so happy about. What have you found? Dee
Absolutely fantastic. I was born in Pawnee in 1934. My older brother in 1932. My parents were married there in 1931 by a Kentuckian Hayden Gullett. Possibly more about this later. Goodnight. Bud
Sharon. Look for a card with one of your own pictures on it. I just now sent it to you. If you don't get it, let me know so I can go back and see what I did wrong. I think my card holds a surprise for you. Bud
Hi Bud, You did everything right! I did receive the postcard. I am constantly being surprised by the ways some of us across the country have connections either through family or places we have lived, etc. Pawnee is where my husband's Dad grew up. My husband's grandparents, Proctor Knott & Mary Irene Gambill McKenzie, moved from Redbush, Kentucky to Pawnee via Ohio. P.K. was the street commissioner in Pawnee from 1932 until 1953. My husband was born in Pawnee and lived there a few years as a child. His parents moved to California during WWII. Glenn (my husband) and his parents drove from California to Oklahoma every summer for their vacations and Glenn also spent a summer (I think it was 1953) working at the swimming pool out by the lake. He went to Oklahoma State in Stillwater and spent a lot of time with his grandparents during those years. He has a lot of good memories. I have only been to Oklahoma 2 times - unfortunately both times were for funerals in Pawnee. Have you seen the website that the Pawnee Historical Society has online? The URL is: http://www.skally.net/pchs/ If not, you might enjoy looking at it and also the one for Pawnee Bill that is at: http://www.open.org/~alfa/PawneeBill/ Got to go - it is getting past my bedtime!
