Dear friends, I have finally been able to identify one, maybe 2 photos that were in my mothers scrapbook. It seems one photo is of Mary Muncy Waller, daughter of Jeff Muncy wife of Ed Waller. In the photo the girl appears to be about 15 - 18 years old. The other photo looks to be that of Mary Muncy, sister of Jeff, with an unknown male. It makes me believe that this family is related to the obit below. If anyone would like a copy of picture please let me know. Obit Jeff Muncey( no date) Sixty one years old, of Kermit Route 1. Ann or list, I have the death certificate for my gggrandfather, Greenville Sagraves. The information on the certificate states that he was buried in Whitehouse, Ky. The undertaker is from Louisa, Ky., and appears to be a Birt Hewlit (sp). Do you, or does anyone happen to know where this cemetery may be located? I visited the Whitehouse area on one of my trips to Ky., and searched every cemetery that I could find there, but......, no luck finding this particular grave. Can someone help? Thanking you in advance!! Chris Cheek Fry
PREMIER ONLINE-FIRST PROJECT Our Goals as "The Johnson County Historical Society Website" is to "PRESERVE & DOCUMENT" History of the past as well as the present. As we enter the 21st century, along with the computer age, our endeavors are also to give those interested in Johnson County Ky data a "PREMIER WEBSITE" in which some of this history "PAST & PRESENT" can be obtained by those Interested. One of the "Newest" Online Projects at this time, has been entering over 130 of the "JOHNSON COUNTY KY" Cemeteries online, in an effort to help those with connections to the Johnson County area. (more to come) The Second Step to the "CEMETERIES PROJECT" is to "PHOTOGRAPH" the "HEADSTONES" (for as many as possible) listed cemeteries and "LINK" them to the respected burials. (many of these are already lost to time) The Third and very important (we feel) online (only) step we are involved with at this time, are "OBITUARIES" of burials in our "CEMETERY PROJECT". With the much needed cooperation of The Paintsville Herald and it's staff, we have obtained their permission to post related only, "OBITUARIES" on the Historical Society Website. (Please remember that this copyrighted material and all rights are reserved to the Paintsville Herald) If one person is helped by our online site, then we feel our website is worth the efforts that are being put forth to make it what we hope it to become, an informative well documented website. Visit the Johnson County Historical Society Website and let us know what you think of this Cemetery Project, by signing the guestbook or dropping an e-mail our way.. Just scroll down and click on "CEMETERY INDEX" after you get there try the "PATTY FLAT" cemetery as it is one that we have documented the best so far in this new style. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyjchs/johnson.html (more being added daily) Always "REMEMBER" that your heritage may be a part of this site and more "INPUT" makes a better "OUTPUT", so if you have information or data related to Johnson County we would Love to have it. Wasn't it Homer and Jethro who sang this back in the 50's or 60's? A little more to it - "It seems funny, I know, but it really is so. I'm my own grand pa." Bud
I recieved this on another list, thought you'd all enjoy it. Redneck Family Tree Many many years ago when I was twenty three, I got married to a widow who was pretty as could be. This widow had a grown-up daughter who had hair of red. My father fell in love with her, and soon the two were wed. This made my dad my son-in-law And changed my very life. My daughter was my mother, For she was my father's wife. To complicate the matters worse, Although it brought me joy, I soon became the father Of a bouncing baby boy. My little baby then became A brother-in-law to dad. And so became my uncle, Though it made me very sad. For if he was my uncle, Then that also made him brother To the widow's grown-up daughter Who, of course, was my step-mother. Father's wife then had a son, Who kept th em on the run. And he became my grandson, For he was my daughter's son. My wife is now my mother's mother And it makes me blue. Because, although she is my wife, She is my grandma too. If my wife is my grandmother, Then I am her grandchild. And every time I think of it, It simply drives me wild. For now I have become The strangest case you ever saw. As the husband of my grandmother, I am my own grandpa.
Does anyone have access to the 1860 Johnson County census???? If so, can someone look up a listing for a Melvina (Hamilton) Rice with a daughter named Josephine???? Melvina Rice married Absolum Conley on 1-12-1861. Her daughter Josephine Rice married Jehisey Colvin on 3-18-1874 all in Johnson County. In the 1850 Johnson County Census I find Absalom Conley listed with his parents, Isaiah and Susannah Conley in household# 370. Also, I have the 1920 Johnson Census if anyone needs a lookup! Sherri
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the map described below? Or if the map that is at the following url is complete? Thanks. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyjohnso/1879.htm Johnson County Kentucky Land Ownership Map ca. 1879 There are no land platt maps in existence for Johnson County. Since there are no townships, etc dividing the county into small recognizable sections none were ever made. This is common south of the Ohio River. But, there exists this one map. It lists a good many landowners and shows where folks lived. It is far from being completed or finished, and I may not even have the entire map here at this time to scan. But hopefully it will help. The original is in Frankfort. Note: I am not sure of the date on this map. It's marked 1879, but I see in one case "Wid Jones", living near Henry Salyer. This is Phebe (Sturgill) Jones, 2nd wife of John Ray Jones, living near Henry Salyer and his wife Alina Jones. From everything I have found so far, Phebe was not a widow in 1879. Perhaps it took years to complete this much? -- Marilee Spradlin Multhup The Spradlin Branches http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~spradlin/ Also researching: Blair, Selvage, Salyer, Hitchcock, Conley, Blanton, Harmon, and many, many more, in Eastern Kentucky, Johnson and Floyd Counties.
Thanks Ann, I'll try that. If it's more I'm sure they'll let me know. Bill
Bill, I think when requesting by mail there is a $3,00 fee as they have to look it up on the microfilms, etc. but dont hold me to that statement. Ann
Thanks Ann. I appreciate the library address. Do you know if there is a charge for copies? Bill
Thanks for the query Gary! It will be in next Friday's column. Ann
