    3. Very interesting article! That couple sure did make a great improvment of the cemetery, the only reason i could see someone being upset is if they did in fact move headstones. Faith

    1. [KYJOHNSON] Dad`s Story
    2. barbara johnson
    3. Yesterday morning I read in the Paintsville Herald the obituary of Ada Conley Ross. This afternoon I told my Mom and Dad about her passing. My Dad always loves to tell stories and I always love to listen. My Dad is George Jackson, son of Milt Jackson (Elijah Milton) and Ida Bell Barker. This is the story that Dad told me about Ada Conley and himself: "The worst whipping I ever got in my life was over Ada Conley." "We lived up on the hill and Millard and his family lived down over the hill. You know how the hills are up there",motioning with his hands. " We could stand in our back yard and talk to them in their back yard. They came to our house everyday. Me and Ada were about the same age." (Dad was born in March of 1920 and Ada in February) "One day Ada was up at our house. Me and her were a fightin` and a wrestlin` and a rollin` in the floor. About that time Aunt Del walked in. She said, " Oh, look at you, you`re a huggin` my daughter." " I jumped up and looked at her and said, "You old fool!" "Dad got a hold of me and gave me the worst whippin I ever had. I thought he was going to kill me that day, and Ma too." Well, Dad, I don`t think Ada Conley was the reason you got that whipping that day. And I think that I would be safe to say that even though you are now eighty years old, and Delphia Conley was not your Aunt, that whipping was the reason you referred to her as "Aunt Del" today. 3. Judy, If you go to my web page (at the bottom) you will find 2 pictures. One of Violet Blair and one of Vernal Spradlin. They both attended Green Valley School. 1. [KYJOHNSON] Photos
    2. Have enjoyed looking at photos on the Johnson Co. site. Would anyone by chance know of any photos of David Daniels (son of John Daniels and Mary VanHoose), born 1827 in Mingo and Catherine Burton (daughter of ? ), Born 1846 in Hoods Fork, Lawrence Co. , married in Johnson Co about 1860? They had 17 children. Joshua, Jane, Elizabeth, Hester, John C., Mary F., Rosa Ann, Charles Allen, Louella, James, Malissa, Nora, Scott, King David, Josie, Nancy, and Alonzo. Also, Malissa was married twice. First marriage was to Joseph VanHoose on 7/21/1897 they had a son Charles who served in WWI. Malissa divorced Joseph VanHoose and married Joseph Branham on 12/19/1901. Would love to find out some more on this family. Malissa was my great grandmother and we never knew until I started searching the history of the family that she had 16 siblings. Would love to know why she separated herself from the rest of the family. Thanks, Jody

    2. I've just added a Green Valley school class to my online photo album. There is a picture of all of them together and I cropped out individual pictures of all 30 students. I'll guessing that the picture was made circa 1930 and that the children are in the 6 to 12 age range. I'm terrible at guessing ages but as soon as I find my notes I will be able to pinpoint it better as there are two children of Bird Preston in the picture. If you recognize any of these children please let me know. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=1019628 Judy Preston Wallace Prestons, Trimbles, VanHooses, Picklesimers and McKenzies

    2. Gail: I don't know Ivy, but I know of the store Ivy's Emporium. She moved recently to a different building downtown. When I was a teenager, living at Stillwater, I went out several times with a Dorothy Battles, but I don't know what ever happened to them after I moved away from there. The fires in this area have been contained, but still have hot spots and occasional flare ups. The local Red Cross chapter reported today that 47 homes were destroyed here in the Guthrie area. The fire came to the edge of town and they were able to contain it there. God was good because no one was killed or even seriously hurt. There are still many serious fires around the state, and more than 100,000 acres have burned in Oklahoma mostly in two days. Thanks again. Bud

    2. Rose Jobe Unrue
    3. Hello listers, All this talk has made me want to put out my query once again. Years and years I have searched for my James. This is what I have: My great grandfather was Samuel Poe of Lawrence Co, KY, born in the 1890s. His father was Isaac Poe of Lawence Co, KY, born about 1840. His father was Samuel Poe who lived in Lawrence Co, but was born in Tenn around 1817. His father was James Poe, born about 1790 in VA or Tenn. Married at some point to Samuel's mother, Sarah ?. James Poe died in Eastern Kentucky around 1870, but I can find no verification. Also, who was the father of my James Poe? If anyone can shed any light, please help. Thanks, Rose
