My great grandfather, George Gaylord was born in New York, abt 1813. He married Margaret ?, who was born in Tennessee in 1822. This is according to the 1850 Census of Jessimine County, Kentucky. He supposedly was a cabinet maker and maker of fine furniture. Family tradition has it that he left for New York about 1854 due to the impending death of his mother. He never reached New York. The tradition has it that he was riding a "fine" horse and had $1,000 in his saddlebags. He does not show up in the 1860 census, but his family does.
