Are you researching the family of John Canter and Mary C. Williams? I have quite a bit of info. John is the brother of my great-great grandmother, Sarah Canter, who married George Rider. John was a civil war veteran who had an injury - he was kicked by a horse and lost an eye. He died in Frankfort, KY in 1923 (give or take a year - it is not in front of me). His parents were Thomas Canter and Julia Ann Browning. He first married Millie Warner in Estill Co. ca 1859, but she died. He had children from all three marriages. Would like for you to get in touch with me. Pat

I remember Mr Lafayette English from when I was a child. He lived in a large white house at Mt Lebanon and ran a country store in the corner of his yard. He was a small man always sort of dressed up, tie and all. He wore a wide brimmed hat like a soutthern gentleman. He had daughters, Laura, Maggie and Minnie aand sons Robert aand Christopher columbus. The last one was named for his imcle of the same name. That uncle was the brother of Lafayette. His grandchildren were in my generation and I knew them well. I have not researched the family but have some books that I might find info to help you. This question is directed to Bax McClure. Your previous post mentioned visiting the historical society office to conduct some research. What type of research can one do at the historical society's office? I have visited the Jessamine County Public Library when in town and have found their genealogy department to be extremely helpful and informative. I'm always looking for more sources of information, so when I saw your post, it sparked my interest. Also, can you tell me anything about the English Family Cemetery located on the Grover Warner Farm? I asked about it several months ago but was told the historical society has not got around to that one yet, and that it is overgrown. Do you know anything about it and when the hist. society would be getting to that cemetery? I am descended from the English family and have been waiting to see this cemetery. I know it is on private property, and that I would need prior permission. Thank You, Roxanne Moores > > >

Scott, I believe that Joseph was the son of Joseph Thompson and Sarah Paul and that he was born in Jessamine County on 15 September 1817. Unfortunately, his marriage was not recorded in his parents bible. My belief is that he was the Joseph listed as a carpenter living in Lexington at the time of the 1880 census. It seems likely that he would have died and been buried in Lexington. I do not however find him listed on the Lexington Cemetery listing found on the Fayette County Website. I think that you and I exchanged information some time ago. But, I don't recollect that it was on the Thompson family. Bob Thompson Prior Lake, MN
