I have Juliannah Browner (or Browning) married to Thomas Canter in Clay County, KY on August 26, 1835. Believe their first son to be John B. Canter, who died in Frankfort, KY in the early 1920's. I am descended from their Daughter Sarah, who married Washington Rider on 12/5/1863 in Jessamine County. Do you have the parents of Thomas Canter? I have a hunch it is Truman Canter and Cynthia Harris, but I have not proved it. I have a copy of the 1860 census in Jackson County, KY, which shows this family. Pat

Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ABB.2ACE/3195.1.1 Message Board Post: Jeanne, Thank you SO much for the info. I have been shuffling the name Patience Holman around for years wondering if she were the correct person. Long ago I found a listing of James and Patience's marriage, but just could not pin it down for sure. Jefferson and Catherine Nave's marriage certificate has James Dean as the father, so that was pretty definite. Would you know if the middle initial H. in Jefferson's name could be HOLMAN? I copied Josh Dean's letter of January 12, 1999 and he listed 12 children for James and Patience..among them a son Thomas Holman Dean. I wonder if they could have used Holman twice. It has occured in another family that I was researching...who knows? Again, thanks very much. If you are interested in what I have on Jefferson and his family here in Ballard and McCracken Co., KY, just let me know. Betty

    1. [KYJESSAM] Cemeteries in Jess. Co.
    2. Anna Ash
    3. This e-mail is addressed to everyone who has family buried in Jessamine County. I just returned from a trip there and want to report on my findings. I would imagine most of you have read the ordinance passed to clean up and take care of the old cemeteries. Well the Historical Society is at work. This job isn't taken lightly. Stones are being dug up that have slowly sunk through time into the earth and reset. They are being glued together in some cases and made to stand tall and proud as our ancestors once stood. This is a slow process because of the care to do this project with accuracy, love and respect for those who have gone on before. Howard C. Teater took me on a tour of several of the old forgotten cemeteries. It doesn't take a lot to see the work that has been done and the great improvement that has been made. The growth and brush was cleared away, in some instances stones dug from the ground, pieces put together some as many as 4 or 5 glued back and now standing upright on level bases. I was very impressed by the feelings there and know my donation is going for a great cause. Now none of these cemeteries hold any of my ancestors, but I can't be any more excited. As we contribute moneys for this project I hope that you will know that your donation will go for a combined effort to reestablish all cemeteries. I have places on their list that I have been to and know what it will take to do the work there. I will be thrilled when I can go back and walk through the clean renewed grounds where my ancestors were laid to rest. Please consider a donation especially if you have family who lived and died in ! Jessamine Co. I can understand why so many of my family came there raised their families there and died there. Just know that your donation is accepted with gratitude and gives them the energy they need to continue this great undertaking. Thanks Howard for the tour. I loved every minute of it. Howard was kind enough to take me to other areas too, thanks for all the history you crammed into a few hours. I really appreciated it, more than you can imagine. Thanks Clyde Bunch for working so hard as the President of the Historical Society to see that this work is carried out. Now I am only citing two good men. I know that there are many good men and women who are working on this project. Thank you all. Sincerely Anna Ash (Texas) Donations can be sent to Howard C. Teater 504 W. Maple St. Nicholasville, Kentucky 40356-1443
