Morning All, Nancy Perry, just pointed out something I had not thought about. Before you e-mail are send you old photos to Irene, keep this in mind. The photos are to be shared with others. They may end up on a CD, on a Web-Page, or publish in a book. So, when you send Irene your photos, please let her know that it is OK to use them anyway we see fit. Sharing is what it is all about. I think we have proved that point, many, many times. I feel that Irene is quite capable of handling this project. So, we will let her set the guide line, as too, what dpi. and how much information to send with your photo. Irene - Print the photos on regular #18 or #20 bonded paper. We will probably end up backing them. I think we need to try for a one to one copy, don't you? This is important, keep track of your cost. I taking about you ink cartrages, paper and mailing. We apperate the time you will be puting into this. We are not going to let you pay for it too. OK? I will have Mildred to set up a file for your photos at the Society. I just heard from Tina. She will keep us in line. Got any old pictures, Tina? Hi Connie, down in Jacksonville, FL . Did I answer you e-mail? Is their anyone I have not answered? Morning All, Anna - I enjoyed your story about your visit to Jessamine County. You got me wondering, what if you had got off on one of our back roads? I am going to see Tom, maybe today. I will print out your story and take it to him. I guess you met Tom's partner, Bonnie. They are both fine people, and both are members of the Historical Society. They help clean up these old cemeteries. Tom was in construction before he bought his place. He some large equipment. When the folks cleaning the cemeteries come across something they can't move, they call Tom. I tell you another thing about him. He use to rebuild old log cabins. I told you he was an interesting person. We also have in the Society a fellow by the name of Bob West that rebuild old stone fences. He is only one of the few in the state that is certified. A lot of these old cemeteries have stone fences around them. Sadly to say most of them have fallen down. I wish we had the man power to fix some of them up. O! Well, just another project, somewhere down the road. MARTY - Thank you for your kind words. You and Dick come on and move to Jessamine County. We will help you find a place. I think Anna and her husband discovered our secret for not being over populated. If the folks coming here could find a place to turn around, I an convinced we would have a lot more people. I am going to the woods. You all have a good day. Clyde ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! DEAR CLYDE AND ALL, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR WONDERFUL STORY ABOUT THE WELLS STORE IN WILMORE. MY HUSBAND WAS SO PLEASED, CLYDE, THAT YOU KNEW SOME OF HIS FAMILY. I HAVE BEEN TOLD SO MANY STORIES OF THE WELLS, AND WOULD LOVE TO HEAR MORE. DICK SAID THAT HE WOULD TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE ON HIS HARLEY, NO MATTER WHAT, BUT THAT HE HAD ALREADY TAKEN ME TO HIGH BRIDGE, BUT WOULD GO AGAIN, ANYWAY. I TOOK MANY PICTURES FOR THE WELLS AND SANDERS BOOK THAT I AM WORKING ON, AND WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR FOR SOME MORE. IT IS SO LOVELY THERE, JUST LIKE HOME, AND TOLD DICK, I COULD EASILY MOVE IF IT WASN'T FOR MY PARENTS HEALTH. I STILL AM NEEDING HELP ON DICK'S FAMILY, SO WILL PROBABLY BE CONTACTING ALL OF YOU FOR MORE HELP. THANKS SO MUCH FOR SUCH A FUN LIST, AND KEEP SENDING THE WONDERFUL STORIES. YOUR FRIEND IN SPIRIT, MARTY SMITH WELLS, IN PIERCETON, WIFE OF RICHARD T. WELLS. RESEARCHING: WELLS, SANDERS, FAIN, AND ALL BEYOND.
Hi All, I have received notes from two people listing the surnames they are researching, with contact information (Thanks, Don and Mary Lou!), and two notes asking for names of other researchers. Sometimes I use too many words to be as clear as I wish... I do not have a directory. I can not tell you, right now, who all is researching a surname. We are trying to compose a directory. If you will send the surnames you are interested in, with information on how to contact you, you will be placed in the directory. Give me a couple of weeks to get a directory started. Then, hopefully, I can begin connecting you to one another. This list works fast! But not quite that fast - and neither do I -haha! Good to hear from all of you, though. I have lots of friends out there. Sincerely, Bryce [email protected]
Hi All, It looks like Irene out in sunny Arizona caught the gold ring. She was the first to answer the call. Irene sounds like just what we are looking for. She tells me that she has been working at restoring old photos for quite some time. Irene I will get with you and work out the details. Then we will post your e-mail address and get started. Speaking of old pictures. We have two original copy of Bennett Young's History of Jessamine County. The one we had reprinted was photo copied, to cut down on the cost. The picture are not that great in it. So, if their is a picture you really, really want in there, tell me and I will scann it for you. O.K.? If you want to join the Jessamine County Historical Society, it will cost you $5 a year. I think you can ask about anyone on here and they will tell you that's a fairly good deal. No, we don't have a news letter, but I wish we did. We are spread fairly thin on this end. Maybe someday. We are still sorting through the picture and papers you people carried in here two years ago. Who gave us all those pictures on the Hill family? I was looking at them the other day. I don't know where the came from. Make out a check out to the Jessamine County Historical Society and send it too: Clyde N. Well let me elaborate on the great place Tom has out on Cream Ridge. In 1999 I had come to Jessamine Co.done some genealogy and enjoyed traveling all around where my folks traveled when they lived here almost 100 years ago now. 6 months later my husband wanted to come with me and we were headed to see family over in Indiana also. We decided to pull our 26 ft. trailer. When we crossed over into Ky. (coming from Dallas) I started looking for a place we could camp really close to where we would be doing genealogy there around Nicholasville. There was a three line listing a place to camp with only a few hook ups but it was out on 1268 south of Nicholasville. We called and sure enough they could accommodate us. I was excited, shoot I'd been out 1268 and surely it couldn't be far off 27 and it would be perfect. Well guys we got to the turn off, turning to the left onto 1268 and we had the address. Gee it looked like it might be a little ways as I compared house numbers.! We kept going and I was getting worried. I knew that road turned into quite a twisting and turning little more than a one laner not too far ahead. Well we kept going and when we came to the cross roads at the bottom of the hill on Sugar Creek and my husband started across the bridge and started around the corner where the old store is still standing I about came unglued. I knew what was ahead and there was no way that we could turn a trailer of that length around if we went any further. There was a car behind us and my husband motioned him ahead and stopped him and they talked said yes the riding stable was just up the road a piece and to follow him and when he turned off it would be another 1/4 mile. Well we followed him and my husbands eyes got bigger and bigger as he saw the drop offs on the sides of the road and how the road had even shrunk more in size. We sure hoped we wouldn't be faced with another car coming towards us cause we took up 3/4 of the width of the ! road. Well you guys we made it. We ended up out on this ridge that jutted out and I believe 1200 feet above the Kentucky River. Tom had a great place for us to camp, they thinking we were bringing a horse trailer. We camped for 5 days on their beautiful horse farm. We did genealogy during the day and hiked down to the Kentucky River early evenings to get the kinks out. The old toll road that goes down to the river is lined with rock fences and you can feel the history there. They were doing some great clearing and making horse trails when we were there. Tom was very gracious about letting us just roam the land and just enjoy its beauty while we camped. The old log cabin, I'm excited to hear he is working on it. He has so much history there on his land. And dark, oh it got dark at night and you could hear the bugs chirping and it was like being in the country again when I was a little girl. Anybody want to take horse riding classes or just go for a ride that's the ! place to call. Not only will you get to enjoy riding a great animal but you will see first hand where some of the great Kentucky history took place. If I'm not mistaken the soldiers crossed the river down below on the ferry boat and came up the old toll road and then there was another road down by the river that followed the river around and would take the wagons over to Camp Nelson once you crossed over Clyde you brought back some good memories. If we ever drag that trailer up that way again you know who we'll call about a place to camp. Anna in Dallas
Hi All, Hi Bill Jennings, in Memphis, TN. You will be please to know that most our Court Records are still here. They date back to 1799. I recognized some of the family names. Could you print that out and send it to me. I would like to have it for our files. Don't forget to put your name, address and e-mail address. I would be happy to look up something for you. Send it too: Clyde N. Bunch 211 Village Cir. Wilmore, KY 40390 I told you I was only going to ask you one or two favors. Will, I lied. Is their any one out there that just loves old family pictures? We have had a lot come into the Historical Society. We will put all these up on our Web-Page when it is up and running. We would like some one to start collecting old photographs of early people of Jessamine County. I think it would be best if we had one person responsible for this project. Enyone who has old family photos could scann them and send them to this person. I think it would be a lot of fun. You probably already know this. If you are scanning a picture, less say the size of a postcard. Scann it in at a 300 dpi. If the photo is the size of a sheet of paper, or a 8X10, scann it in at at 100 dpi. If you do this you can make a one to one copy. If you scann at a much higher dpi, you can't send it over the phone line. It takes to long. Hay, any of you Sagesers want a picture of the old lot cabin? Clyde ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Hi All, It is my intention to make you home sick. I want you to come to Jessamine County. If not in body, maybe in your minds-eye. I want to tell you a story. This happen only a month or so ago. I was on the paddle wheel boat, the Dixie Bell going up the Kentucky River. It was a nice day. The boat was full of people. They were laughing and talking, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. This fellow came up and set down next to me. He introduced himself as Tom Beall. We talk about the river, and what a beautiful place it was. I pointed to our old home on the bank of the river, and told Tom that wife Mildred and I had raised five daughters there. One word led on to another. I told Tom that when I was a young man I took a canoe up into eastern Kentucky, and put in at the headwaters. I told him I took no food, just a gun, and a little fishing gear. I was going to live off the land. Will, I stayed on the river for five days. If it had not been for an old rusty lard can I had found, and some corn I had sold along the way, I would have surely starved to death. Now, I thought this was a pretty good tell. That is until Tom told his. He said he put a canoe in the river, "one time" and stayed on the water for nine months, and went all the way to New Orleans. I knew at this point, I was going to have a hard time toping that one. We parted company, thinking I would never thinking I would see Tom again. My story don't end here. A few weeks after our boat ride, I was at our monthly Historical meeting. I was standing up front, talking about something. I looked up and there coming in the door was Tom Beall. I stopped and introduced Tom. I told the folks about the conversions we had on the boat. I told them about me going down the Kentucky River, and I told them about Tom going to New Orleans. I then told them I had come to one of two conclusions about Tom Beall. He was either a bigger liar then I, or one of the most interesting people I had ever met. I so happens that Tom is a interesting person. He reminds me of a fellow I knew many years ago. Your going to love this Shelia. Tom owns the old Sageser place at the end of Cream Ridge. He owns part of that bend in the Kentucky River. He is remodeling the old Sagester Log Cabin. I think I have about talked him into renting it out in the summer. He also has a riding stable and rents canoes. He and I talked a while back about haveing a good old Kentucky pig roast. You ever been to a pig roast? Would you like to go to one? Morning Clyde and all, Just to expand a bit on what Clyde has told you about the researchers list; those of you who were at the first Heritage Festival will recall the charts we posted on the wall. I had listed the surnames being researched by Jessamine County descendants, and beneath each surname listed contact information for folks researching that surname. I did not retain a copy of the list on my computer, so if you sent me the information for the original directory, please take the time to do it again. Clyde has asked me to make this an on-going project, and I am happy to do so --- very glad that I can do something to help out even though I am far from Jessamine County. As Clyde suggests, researchers can then ask me who else is researching a particular surname. I will also provide the Historical Society with periodic updates to print as a hard copy for their on-site visitors, so of course, researchers will be able to ask any of the on-line Historical Society members for the same information. Provide only what you want to share. Just an e-mail, or just an address is fine ---- only what you are comfortable with. And, as Clyde said, this information will be shared ONLY with fellow researchers. Bryce Stevens [email protected] : : #2 Several years ago Bryce Stevens started keeping track of all our : members. Hi All, Anna Ash - So good to see you on the List talking about cleaning the old cemeteries. I am so sorry I missed you when you were here. Howard told me you all had a good time. Howard's dad passed away last week. He was 97 years old. I guess he was the last old Ferry operator in the county. Howard told me you all went to the Shelby Cemetery. What did you think of that? I went out and looked at it, and thought it looked great. But, you should see it how. They went back, haled in a load of dirt, and leveled it all up and sod it in grass. It look like it did maybe a hundred years ago. Thanks for telling the folks about you visit. Marty Wells - Thank you for the nice e-mail. Yes I knew, or knew of most of the folks you spoke of. The little store of Raymond Well and Tom Woods, I remember well. Did you know that little store use to be a farm machine store about a hundred years ago? Business must have not been that good however, they had a funeral parlor in the back of it. I have a picture of it. The next time your down this way, give me a call. I tell you what I will do. I will give you a tour of High Bridge, if you take me a ride on your Harley. Clyde ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Dear List Members, I need to let you all know that I just got a sweet letter and pictures from Howard Teater. Howard is keeping me posted on the Ferrell Cemetery Clean-up out on Sugar Creek. I know of several folks that have hiked back there lately will be happy to know that you can get in there pretty easy now. Howard's first cousin and husband owns that land and have been extremely gracious about people coming in with back hoes and other equipment to clear all the growth and brush away and make it a place again where folks can come visit where their ancestors rest. Howard the pictures were great, I couldn't believe it was the same place. Thanks so much for the pictures. If anyone has an interest in this cemetery (Ferrell Cemetery) and would like to see pictures please e-mail me personally and I will send you a before and after. Anna in Dallas

Hi All, Marilyn of Northern California ask me a question. I thought I would answer on the List, in hope someone could add to the following. I know of no book that has any thing written about Benjamin Robinsion. I was able to pick up a few bits and prices that may help you. First of all, I know where he is buried. He is buried on the Underwood Farm on Bethany Pike. This is about three miles east of Nicholasville. According to his gravestone, Benjamin Robinson was born, December 17, 1752 and died in 1835. Next to him lies his wife Malinda. She was born November 3, 1752, and died February 2, 1851. In this cemetery is also, John Robersion born May 8, 1779 died September 11, 1863. The wife of John Robersion, Fanny G.. she was born September 4, 1784 and died September 15, 1859. Also a James Robinson, born Maqrch 30, 1818, died Octomber 22, 1861. Marilyn, It looks like you just won the lotery. I am going to let you ponder on this a bit, while I answer some other e-mail. I will get back to you later, and we will find out a little more about you family. Clyde ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Hi All, I live in Wilmore. It in down in the south west section of Jessamine County. It is 5 miles west of Nicholasville, and 4 miles north of High Bridge. Wilmore is a quite little town. From some old pictures I have it don't look much different then it did a 100 years ago. It's one of those place that you can drive or walk down the street and people smile and wave to you. Kids still play out, with little fear to their safety. All and all it sort of reminds we of one of those Rockwell Paintings. My friend, Margaret Morgan is the city planner here. She has potted flowers hanging from every telephone pole. You will also see an American Flag on most every pole. How this is from city limits to city limits. If you don't belive me. Come see for your self. At Christmas time, all the old buildings outlined in little lights, and every tree along the street is lit. Of corse, every one here goes to bed with the chickens. Every winter I go down and take pictures. No people, no cars, and nothing open down there, just Christmas everywhere. In a way, it a little sad. I don't know why they keep doing it. But, I hope they never stop. That remind me. John Fitch owns the IGA store here. He also has a small Bed & Breakfast down town. This old house, is call Scott's Station Inn. I think many years ago it was used as a boarding house. He has sure got it fixed up nice. I told John about you all. He said, that you all are welcome anytime, and if you are a member of the Historical Society he will give you 20% off his rates. How about that. I have known John Fitch, sense he was a little boy. He is OK. If your interested let me know. I will give his phone number. I have a picture of the old place. I can send it to you if you like. This is a small place and can only accommodate about 15 people. I am not much on TV. When I run out of something to do, I go down a set on a bench in front of the IGA. I am never there long until some of my old friends have gathered. People are a lot more interesting then TV. Don't you think?
