Hello: I wish to thank everyone who volunteered to do look-ups for me. Also the info that there are books available. I will order those today. Are there any books available that transcribes Wills of Jessamine Co? I live too far away to go to the Historical Society Library and they don't have Jessamine Co books in the library where I live. Thanks to everyone again. Eva Hall
Hello everyone: I just recently joined the list. I descend from Benjamin Martin Jr & Sarah Baker Martin. They had a daughter Lucy who married John McClure and a daughter Mary "Polly" who m1: Reuben Cooley and m2: Stephen Walter(s) after Reuben died. Stephen & Polly had children David, Sarah, Mahala, Benjamin, & Martha Walter(s). Polly then died about Feb 1815 and Stephen Walter(s) then m2: Sarah McClure, daughter of John McClure and Lucy Martin McClure. Stephen's & Sarah's children are Elizabeth, Stephen Jr, John Martin, Lucinda, Nancy, Larkin, Richard G. & Levi. I need marriage records for Jessamine Co, beginnin with 1820. I have a transcribed book up to that date. Is there a book for sale by someone, or historical society, of Jessamine Co marriage records beginnin with about 1820? I have questions about John McClure & Lucy Martin children but that will need to wait until another time. Thanks. Eva J Hall
Hi All, Maymie, That could very well be you Daniel Ross. I don't think he is buried here in Jessamine. The list of Rev. Soldiers I posted on the Internet were only extracts. You need to order all his Pension Papers. You could start his Widows Pension, W.10253. Daniel's son Lewis married a Milly McClannethan here in the county in 1821. Hi, Anne Goggin. I have a feeling the Goggin's you are looking for were in Madison County. Goggin Ferry Road starts just above Nicholasville and runs southeast across the county. It has been greatly altered, and now goes my several names. I believe Goggin's Ferry was first operated my John Goggin, and based on the Madision County side of the river. After the death of John Goggin in 1819, his son Stephen Goggin took over the operation. They had a large business going on over there, one of the biggest Warehouse along the river. I think both became fairly rich men. If your William Goggin was married to a Nancy Glasgow, I think you have found you man. Hi List! First of all I wanted to compliment you for having such an active and informative list. Second, I'm sorry that when I was in KY earlier this year (Goggin Reunion @ Burkesville, KY) that I didn't know of a possible connection to Jessamine Co.,KY. I most definitely would've 'coerced' my sister into a little side trip. Since my return to OK I've come across information that begs the kind of help that only a native of the area or a dedicated student of the area is going to be able to help me with. The Jessamine County site has a treasure in the posting of the old court records. I found many references to Goggins Ferry. Can anyone identify the location of Goggins Ferry for me, or at least the waterway that it crossed? Is it possible that someone may have the identity of which Goggin had that ferry and for what years? Is the current Groggins Ferry Road the same as the road that was being built in the early 1800s to Goggins Ferry? I know that my William Goggin was at a later date (1808 and later) running Goggins Landing in Cumberland Co., KY which was a ferry across the Cumberland River at the Cumberland and Russell Co. lines, but I feel that these must be two different ferry locations. Any body have any clues? Thanks for the help! Anne Goggin Mooneyham

Clyde and all in Jessamine County, It does my heart good to hear about all the other groups getting involved in the cemetery project. I knew that if the word got out and was kept out there, others would become interested and lend a hand. It is particularly heart-warming at this time, when our nation is coming together as never before. Keep up the good work, Jessamine County!!! I look forward to seeing some of the completed work when I get there in about 3 weeks. Has anyone done any before and after photos of those cemeteries? It would be wonderful to have something like that to post on the Jessamine site and to submit to Savinggraves.com. Love to all, Shelia
Hi All, Thank you for you comments on the Kentucky River Guide. I will print you comments, and give them to the River Task Force at the next meeting. They will be very pleased to hear from you. This little Guide has already won two awards here this year. I work with these people, and I will tell you this about them. I have never worked with a more dedicated grope of people. In a few short years, they have helped change the thinking about the river. It's no longer taken for granted. I have a few more of these River Guides. So, if you want one let me know. Just send me a self addressed #10 envelope with two stamps. Lois, just ask a good quistion. She ask if the soldiers that severed in the War of 1812 were on the list I posted. The answer is No. I feel we need to keep the two separated. I have started complying a list of Jessamine County, Soldier that were in the War of 1812. I will try to get it posted sometime this winter. I think it best if we don't get to get to much going at one time. I hope you all are haveing a good day. It's a little cool in Kentucky, but the sun is out, and the sky is clear. Clyde Bunch 211 Village Cir. Morning All, Kathy just point out to me that I missed Rev. Soldier, George O'Neal on the list. If you come across any other we have missed please let me know. I want to thank Alice and Allan for all the information they sent on Rev. Soldier, William Anderson. This is a very good example on how we can work together. You can spend years working on your family, and in one brief moment, the hold story comes to light, and every thing fall into place. Isn't it funny, how someone all the way across this country, can help us locate a small forgotten cemetery here in Jessamine County? Jeannett, I wished I could tell you for sure where Jacob Zike is buried, but I can't. I would lay odds that he is in the Hoover Cemetery on Short Shun. Do you have any of his military records? Marilyn, Have we got some good news for you. Your Rev. Soldier, Benjamin Robinson and his wife Mildred are buried here in Jessamine County, on Bathany Road. This is just a few miles east of Nicholasville. They are buried near the Bathany Church mention in the paper you sent. That's not all. James Robinson, son of Benjamin Robinson is buried in another cemetery on Union Mill Road. James Robinson's wife Martha Parrish is buried here also. How about that? Bryce, Sue was not at the meeting to other night, she was out of town. I have not forgot. Did you make contact with Bax McClure? You and she need to get to know each other. You two will be keeping track of everyone. Hay! What about the River Guides? I have mailed out quite a few of them, and have some more to mail in the morning. I have not seen any feed back on the List. Go ahead and make your coments. It want hurt George's feelings. Hi All, and Alan English in Summit NJ, Alan, just sent me great amount of information on William Anderson, and I think he is in for a big surprise. Our folks located the grave site of William Anderson, and his son Oliver some time ago. The cemetery committee has ordered William Anderson a new military stone. When it get here we will have dedication, colors, Rev. guard and all. It is so late in the year, we may wait till next year for the dedication. Do you want to come? Alen, you need to get in contact with Alice Hill. Her e-mail address is: [email protected] She is on the Jessamine-List also. Alice his a lot of information on this Anderson Family. I been working with her. She gave us a picture of Col.. Oliver Anderson. I forgot to tell you all. The cemetery committee is putting up signs in all the cemeteries they are cleaning. Ernestine brought some of the signs to the meeting the other evening. They look really good. I wish you all could be here to see how the cleaning of these old cemeteries has touched people. It is as if they were just waiting for someone to make the first move. The other day a fellow ask me if we were cleaning the old Crutcher out on Highway #29. I said no. Come to find out it was a local church group here in Wilmore that was doing it. It just goes to show you, their is a lot of good people in the world. Our cemetery fund is holding up right nicely. I want to thank you again for your donations. We need to keep in this fund, only what it takes to do the job. I will let you know if we start running short, but for the time being we are OK. Hi All, it's me again. In the Jessamine County, Courtyard you will find a small plaque with a list of 63 Revolutionary Soldiers. This was placed there in 1927 by the DAR. Up to several years ago this was about the extent of the known Rev. Soldiers that lived in Jessamine County. Thanks to Howard Teater, George Dean, Ernestine Hamm, and you all this list had more then doubled in size. We feel it's about time that we place another plaque next to the above one, listing all the newly discovered Soldiers that are buried in Jessamine County. We know that we may never find all of them. But, the plaque would at lest list their name. One of the goals of the Jessamine Co., Historical Society was to locate as many of these old Soldiers as possible, and to mark their graves, so they will never again be lost to time. When you came here for the History Fest, we had to send guides with you to locate some of these grave sites. We hope with a little modern technology, and some good maps to simplify things. The generations that follow should have little trouble finding these grave site. I feel that keeping these old Soldiers memory alive is very impotent us, especially now. In times of need we always reach back in time for sometime stable to cling too. These old Soldiers have been our rock for well over two hundred years now. If their memory is ever allowed to die, we as a country will surely follow. We sometimes forget, and some have never known, that freedom comes at a price. The Society has been using Topo Maps and GPS locaters for some time now. The following is a list of Revolutionary Soldiers, known to have lived in Jessamine County. I have given George and Ernestine a copy this list. They will add other locations and other names. Now, it's your turn. I am sending you the list. We would like you to look it over, and tell us what you know about these Soldiers. This will be a good winter time project. As we get feed back, we will up date this list. It will be posted from time to time. If you have any records for these Soldiers, please send it to me, so it can be placed in the files at the Historical Society. Clyde Bunch 211 Village Cir. Morning All, We had our last meeting of the Jessamine County, Historical Society for this year. Kathy Hall our Secretary will be posting a list of the new officers a little later. I was so pleased that Kathy held the position of Secretary. She has done a great job for us. I would like you all to welcome to Bax McClure to the List. She is our new Treasurer. Her e-mail address is [email protected] I explained to Bax that most of our members are on this List, and that you were just as active as the ones here at home. I think Bax is going to be surprised when she sees how far you are spread. Our little family just keeps growing. When we started, I think I was the only one on the List from Jessamine. Now you have a Secretary, Treasurer and quite a few members to ask questions. Shelia, jump in here. Don't you make me come to Kansas. Benjamin Martin of Orange Co., VA migrated to KY about 1786, when his dau., Lucy m John McClure, in Lincoln Co., KY He also resided in Fayette Co. and when Jessamine Co. was formed he became a resident of that county. Jessamine Co. tax lists 1799-1820 indicate that he lived on Jessamine Creek. Benjamin died in 1821 (WB C:146, Proved court Aug 1821). He left his daughter, Betsey Martin, Negro girl named America and her increase. In Sep 1821 his heirs freed Benjamin's slave, Peggy. ..sum of one dollar... and for the consideration of the unremiting care and assiduous attention and industry of a woman slave Peggy for 30 service? of years to our father and for and in a concisusness [sic] thereof in duty we and her as well as now and other considerations operating upon us hath this day manumited and set at liberty the slave Peggy afsd... (DB G:245) Among Benjamin's heirs was Stephen Walters, who had first married Benjamin's dau., Polly Martin, widow of Reuben Cooley. Stephen married (2) 1815, Shelby Co., KY, Sarah McClure, neice of Polly and the dau. of Lucy Martin and John McClure. Stephen Walters and his step-son, Reuben Cooley, Jr., signed the document freeing Peggy, as did the children of Benjamin Martin: Abner Martin,Linza Martin,Wm. Martin, James Martin,Eleth. Martin, John McCune [sic], Larkin Martin,Caleb Martin. Benjamin Martin's land records proof that he lived neighbor to Lewis. Is anyone researching Black history in Jessamine Co. and might know if the Peggy Lewis living with Stephen Walters in 1850 was the woman the Martin heirs freed in 1821? Reuben Cooley was still in Jessamine Co. but all of Benjamin's children had left the area or were deceased by 1850. Would it not be logical that Peggy Lewis might be the woman living with Stephen Walters and the same woman freed by the Martin heirs? Thank you to all that helped me with the School for the Deaf. You are a great bunch of folks to work with. I appreciate your help very much. I tried to thank each one personally but just in case I missed you thank you. I will now see if I can get records that far back. Vickye
I need to know where in Kentucky they taught the deaf in the 1850's? My ggg- grandmother sent her son there for his education in 1852 or 3. In the records she states that Texas does not have a institution for his education, she is sending him to the State of Kentucky for 3 to 4 years for his education. Where would this be, can anyone help? The student was Joshua HADLEY. Thank you for any help. Vickye White Rt. 1 Box 96 Stanton, Texas [email protected]
