Jessamine Co. List Members, I just talked to Howard Teater this morning and I need to Publicly Appologize to him. I was unaware of a published printing of the Morovian and Ferrell Cemetery listing that was included in one of his cemetery books. I would have never placed it on the internet had I known the source. I know that Howard has done a great service to all of us by collecting this information and publishing it in a form that he has made available through the Jessamine County Historical Society. Please accept my appology Howard, it won't happen again. Anna in Dallas For interest in Howard Teater's Published Cemetery Records of Jessamine Co. Please write Howard C. Teater 504 W. Hi, I'm looking at the brochure "Kentucky River Boating Guide" which has a map that includes parts of Jessamine, Garrard, Mercer & Madison Counties. There is a place called Buena Vista on the map but I'm not sure in which county it lies. Can someone tell me if this is a town or just an area? I have a ggrandfather who had connections to this part of KY and he named one daughter Buena Vista, which I think is unusual. Thanks. Jean

Good Day to all I hope you are all well. I have been taking care of the Jessamine website for nearly 2 years at times it has been trying and frustrating. There have been many times over the past few months that I have seriously considered giving up the website because I believed there has not been much interest of late. I will give you a few statistics from the website mail lists etc. Over the last 6 months there have been 2,967 visits to the website which is not bad but over the past 2 months we have averaged about 50 visit a month not so good. the rootsweb mail list has grown to 184 members and the yahoo mail list abot 70 which is not bad in the month of september there were 9 messages posted to the rootsweb maillist and over the past few months we are averaging about 40 posts per month. at one time we were getting about 80. In an attempt to get some interest the website will be moving to a new permanent home the jessamine county website will be moving over the next few weeks to www.jessaminecounty.org I have aquired this domain so jessamine County may have it's own address instead of a subdomain. Thanks for all your help over the past 2 years. Jim
Clyde thanks for sharing Kentucky history with us. I was most interested in your mention of Benjamin Logan. While researching Elijah Baker, brother-in-law to my ancestor, Benjamin Martin of Jessamine Co., I found that Benjamin Logan & his wife, Ann, had sold Baker 100a on Bullskin. (B-1:196-198, Jan 1797.) Logan also sold land (B-1:41-43, 1796) on Bullskin to James McClure, whose family had inter-married with a daughter of Benjamin Martin. Elijah Baker had mar. Elizabeth McClure in Lincoln Co. Elizabeth was either a sister or daughter of this James McClure. Makes this come to life when you mention finding the cemetery and stating that Bullskin was a beautiful little creek. Thanks peggy b chapman "We found the cemetery. It sets high on a ridge overlooking a beautiful little creek called, Bullskin. It looked like many of the cemeteries our folks were working on."
Hi All, Let me tell you about a little trip my friend Ken Houp and I took yesterday. I think you may find it interesting, especially if you like early Kentucky History. As some of you may know I became interested in Logan' Fort in Lincoln County, several years ago. In fact, I move to Lincoln County, and lived with in fifty yards of where Logan's Fort stood. We lived there about a little over two years, before moving back to Jessamine County. Last Fall, about this same time of year, Ken and I decided to go to Shelby County, and see if we could find the grave site of Col. Benjamin Logan, the man I had studied so much about. We knew he had moved and died there. We had a general idea of the aria he had lived. We ask the folks in the aria if they know where Col. Logan and Col. James Knox were buried. No one knew. It seem so strange to me. Here were two of the most famous men in the early of Kentucky, and no one knew anything about them. If these two men had not came to the frontier, the hold history of this state would have been changed. Col. Ben Logan had came with his family and other and build Logan's Fort. One of the three forts that had held Kentucky in 1777. Col. James Knox had lead the Long Hunters into Kentucky in 1769. He was also the one that had opened the Wilderness Road to wagon traffic. As to why both of these men are buried in the same cemetery, it's a long story, and we will save that for one of those old cold winter day. We stopped in Shelbyville and picked up Neal Hammon. I may have told you about Neal. He has written several books, many papers on Kentucky. I think he is one of the best historians in the state. I been following his writing for over thirty year, and he has been a bit of a mentor to me, but this was the first time we had met face to face. We found the cemetery. It sets high on a ridge overlooking a beautiful little creek called, Bullskin. It looked like many of the cemeteries our folks were working on. It was full of weeds, and many of the stones were down. The first taught that came to my mind was, Boy! , I wished I had Ernestine here. I could not help but feel a little sad as we left the cemetery. This is no way to treat our heros. I think we need to understand. Most of the neglect of these old cemeteries don't come not caring. It comes from not knowing. Once you put a face on these people the hold ball game changes. This is were you have been so impotent. Just keep letting people know, who these people were, and that we care. You have seen what has happen here in Jessamine County, with the old cemeteries. I see no reason why it can not be done state side. Just keep this in mind, your anscesters nor history stoped at the county line. Give me your taughts. Elizabeth Sewell married Robert Cays in that year in Jessamine County, and they lived in Garrard County near Bryantsville for the better part of their married life. I am at work right now, and my information is at home, so I'll have to go home and check it out and e-mail you what I have. I recall her mother's name was Sarah, and she lived with Robert and Elizabeth in the later censuses, along with a daughter, whose name escapes me right now. There was probably another son named James Sewell. I believe this family is from Pulaski County, Kentucky or there abouts, which puts them close to Tennessee, where they may have been from originally. Hope to hear from you soon. Let me know if you have any other info, and we'll share. Christine
