The 24 May 2001 edition of the Herald-Leader published an article > entitled "Tourists dig deep into the past". Accompanying this article was a > picture of the grave marker of Catherine Oakes, died 22 Feb 1863. The marker > was located in the old Moravain church cemetery in Jessamine County. I > believe this Catherine Oakes may be a lead in my ancestry search for origin > of great X 3 grandfather Daniel Samuel Oaks. Daniel S was born about 1791 in > either VA or NC, and moved to KY about 1820, settling in Lincoln County about > 1837. He died in Lincoln County in 1874. The husband of the Catherine Oaks > buried in Jessamine County is believed to be Thomas Oakes (or Oaks) born about 1775 > in VA, and the probable brother of my Daniel Samuel. A tie to the Moravains > creates a new possibility for search. > I would appreciate very much any information for the Moravain's or Oaks in Jessamine County.

Does anyone on the list know anything of Luther Davis or his wife Mary Donnohue and family? Know they were probably orginally from Jessamine County and also lived in Woodford County and in Lexington. Their daughter, Annie Lucille Davis, married a REv. John T. Betts of Richmond, VA. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church there in Lexington actually serving as pianist there for many years. I am curious about WHY she never left KY to live with her husband when he left for other church appointments. They had one daughter, Ruth Betts, who mar. Field McLeod. Annie and her daughter are buried in Lexington Cemetery. Rev. Betts is buried in Richmond, VA. (estranged in death as well). He actually wrote a book entitled "Through the Holy Land on Horseback" in 1920 and while he wrote of his family, he never mentioned a wife. Two family members who knew him when they were young, said they never heard of a wife. Curious in GA, Karen

Hi All Just wanted to let everyone know the Jessamine County website has moved to it's own domain at www.jessaminecounty.org . I searched and I found a host that guarantee's 99.9% uptime this means that 99.9% of the time you will be able to access the website. My roots run deep in Jessamine County they were mostly in High Bridge. That is why I do this because of my ancestors and my love for Jessamine County. One of my fondest childhood memories was walking across high bridge and visiting my great Uncle and Aunt Jess Johnson and Bessie Houp Johnson I can still remember the old house they use to live in. Thanks Jim
