I have an obit for a Sarah Ann Dennis who died in Nemaha County, Kansas, in 1941 and it states she was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1856 to parents Jesse E. and Mary Dennis. I have found this Dennis family in the 1860 census in Jefferson County, Louisville, Ward 8. However, I know of nothing else about Jesse E. and Mary. After Sarah's father died she and her mother (and perhaps other siblings) moved to Kansas and in 1883 Sarah married Lewis L. Smith (whose parents were William and Martha (Doyel) Smith, also of Kentucky). I also have another Kentucky connection, but am not sure which county I should be looking in: I have an ancestor by the name of Batson DENNIS, b. in 1796 who 'came from Henry County, Kentucky' and eventually settled in Kansas. It's my understanding the boundaries of Shelby and Henry county have changed often, so I'm not sure which county seat to be looking in; however, if anyone recognizes this Dennis name I'd appreciate hearing from them. I don't know of Batson's parents, but believe his father was born in Virginia around 1760 and was a surveyor - so I'd also appreciate hearing from anyone who knows of a surveyor by with the last name of Dennis.
