They're a fraternal organization that is worldwide. Here's what "The Louisville Encyclopedia" says about the Masonic Home: "On November 23, 1866, a group of Free and Accepted Masons (F&AM) met at the Masonic Temple in Louisville to discuss the idea of providing a widows' and orphans' home and an informary. The charter for the incorporation of the Masonic Widows' and Orphans' Home was granted by the Kentucky legislature in January 1867. The cornerstone for the home was laid in 1869, and the first resident was admited in April 1871. The original home was erected on Second St. at the corner of "A" St. (Gaulbert Ave.) and "B" St. (Bloom Ave.). The home primarily provided care for orphans of Kentucky FREEMASONS but also was home to many elderly Masonic widows." The Masonic Home is now on Frankfort Ave. in St. Matthews (a city within Louisville). I visited there a few years ago and met a distant cousin who was a resident of the home. He was 98 years old at the time, and had been there for many years. Good luck in your search.
