Hello friends, I am trying to figure out how to find my grandfather & his brother in the 1920 Ky/Jefferson/ Census. These two boys were the product of a divorce. Vincent Arnold b. Nov.15.1913 William Arnold b. Nov.07.1915 Bothe born in Louisville. Parents Lawrence P. Arnold & Elizabeth Mary Byerly. They divorced sometime between 1916-1920...I found both parents living with their OWN PARENTS after the divorce..but no boys?? Since 1920 is indexed..I thought it would be easy to find them. My grandfather William is still living but not too sure. He says he lived in a "Boys Home In Louisville". Both boys eventually ran away from the home. After their mother remarried..they settled in Chicago. No luck from St. Vincents Orphanage.. Any suggestions???? Sincerely, Patty
Patty, I know the St. Joseph Orphanage occupants are listed in the 1930 census, I haven't looked at the list in the 1920. I need to check to see when another was founded, it is named Boy's Haven. I can check the Louisville Encyclopedia to see when that was founded. Patty, My grandfather and two of his younger brothers were sent to the German Protestant Orphan's Home in 1896 when their parents died. By 1902 it was renamed the Protestant Orphans Home and was at 1250 Bardstown Road (now Mid-city Mall). In 1961, it moved to Goldsmith Lane and became Brooklawn Childrens Home. It is now Brooklawn Treatment Center and is still in business. Pat Settle --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! News - Today's headlines
Patty, Boy's Haven is out, it was founded in 1950. There was another by the name of Ormsby Village, official name Louisville and Jefferson Co. childrens home and operated between 1920 - 1968. It was in the Lyndon area. Actually Patty there are also a couple other possibilities....you can email me directly for the other info.
