Sorry, don't know that can help much with this ... Kentucky doesn't have townships. The Northwest Territory was the first area of the US to be divided into townships in 1787, Kentucky counties had already began to be formed before this (1780) and were never adapted to that system. Which basically means that while you can find a nice square county with easy to find 1/2' and 1/4's of townships and ranges in Indiana, if you cross the river, you must depend on somebody's judgement and description of where a tree (which obviously no longer exists) was located next to a creek that had been renamed 3 times. Enough of my township rant... I did a Mapquest search for this address and came up with a location that I most certainly did not expect (I expected Valley Station). Valley Rd. runs off of Barret Ave. in a nearly diagonal Southeastern route toward Eastern Parkway. It's right in the middle of the polygon formed by Calvary, St. Michael's and St. Louis Cemeteries (Louisville Cemetery is nearby also). In earlier years this would likely have been in Ward 1 of the City. By 1930, I don't know, but would still guess Ward 1. Thank you everyone for the lesson on "townships" , the description of the neighborhood and the link for finding EDs in the 1930 census in KY! ~Susan Ft LWood, MO ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patrick" <patrick@migrations.org> To: <KYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, September 07, 2002 2:55 AM Subject: Re: [KYJEFFER] 70 Valley Road, 1930 Census > Sorry, don't know that can help much with this ...
