John Gay Moore is an ancestor of my neighbor who does not use a computer--yet. I found a copy of abstracts of early Jefferson Co. Wills at the Louisville library, which coupled with marriage records, presents a slightly larger list of children of James Francis Moore of Fish Pools Plantation." The Filson Historical Society has a great deal on James Francis Moore and his descendants. If you haven't had a chance yet, check out what they have on the third floor in Special Collections. Very extensive research on the family. The Moore family file folder in the second floor library also contains a wealth of information on this family. Many years ago, I wrote an article for Ancestral News," the quarterly of Ancestral Trails Historical Society on using circuit court case files in genealogy. One of the cases I cited was Jefferson Circuit Court, Chancery, #8031, dated 1855. Plaintiff: William Graham; Defendant Joseph H.D. Moore. Graham brought suit in order to perfect his title to land he had pruchased from the executors and heirs of James F. Moore's estate. Moore's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. were named. The case even mentioned who was alive, dead, and where each defendant was living. If I remember right, more than 50 descendants of Moore were named. You can order a copy of this suit from the state archives. See www.kdla.state.ky.us for a form you can use to order a copy of the case file. It was amazing. I think there are several Moore descendants who have joined the DAR or SAR on Moore. Their application papers would also document his descendants.
