Polio IS caused by a virus. The eradication came about only through mass immunization. My Dad was USPHS and said that most of us had one of the many forms of polio w/o paralysis. I became a physical therapist much as a result of seeing friends with paralytic polio. Nancy

Dear Listers, I seem to recall hearing that it was the *lack *of indoor plumbing and flies that allowed the polio virus to be transmitted. That is, the flies would land on excrement, pick up the virus and would then land on food or someone's hands. But the information I had, from a doctor, was not scientifically tested.
