I picked up the following BURKS because James and Matilda Covington Ross Burks are buried within a half mile of John Floyd, on property that was originally owned by John Floyd. The Burks family is related to the Davis family in Amherst Co. VA, and I thought perhaps the Burks would be related to the Floyd family through the Davises. They probably are, but I have been unable to make a connection. I know that the will of John Burks is in the the Jefferson Co. Rootsweb archives. I have the following marriages in Jefferson Co. KY that relate to the the BURKS family: James Burks to Matilda Ross, widow of Presley N. Ross 8/7/1823 (Note: She is Matilda Covington, daughter of Philip Covington. Burial is in the cemetery at The Springs shopping center, in the middle of the parking lot. She inherited the property that included Big Springs Country Club from her first husband, who was a son of Lawrence Ross and Susannah Oldham.)
