Hello-- I am new to the Jefferson Co. list and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Alex Luken, and I research primarily the FLOYD family, in particular that of Robert Clark Floyd. It is not my family line, but one that has "adopted" me. The family has proved to be an interesting way to learn early American history. I am primarily interested in KY history prior to the Civil War. My own family came from Eastern Europe to Canada in the 1930's, and burned all the limbs of the tree behind them. My husband's family lived on the same farm on Dixie Highway in Jefferson Co. from about 1850 to 1997. He is the youngest son of the youngest son of the youngest son; my husband is 45, his great-grandfather was born in 1826. Unfortunately his aunt burned the family bible during WWII because it was written in German and she considered it unpatriotic to keep it. I live in Louisville near Cave Hill Cemetery, if anyone ever needs anything from there. Regards, Alex Luken
Dear Alex, Welcome to the list. When I was a boy I lived near the same cemetery. That was over 50 years ago. Now I am forced to live near L.A. I have a question: Are you interested in the same Floyd group that provided a son for the Lewis and Clark Expedition? That family lived near Louisville. Sgt Nathaniel Hale Pryor, his first cousin, was in Louisville and also was on the expedition.
