    3. >From the data on an early Land Grant to James McCorkle from King George III and Bishop William George McCloskey, Bishop of Louisville [ 1823 - 1909 ] it soon became obvious that the history of the early American Church and Louisville is quite rich, complex and of interest both historically and from a Genealogical perspective. [ Previously cited: http://www.bellarmine.edu/content/about/pdf/2001-2002_student_handbook.pdf ] I was surprised to see Baltimore Maryland's influence quite early on, as opposed for example to Virginia, which one would suspect [ As mentioned Virginia claimed more than half the 'World', so to speak, even prior too the Revolution ]. However, originally Louisville was part of the Diocese of Baltimore Maryland and It would appear, for a short time anyway, secondary to Bardstown. See < http://www.bardstowntourism.com/tours/religion.htm > For an interesting foray, tightly related, see also: < http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01367c.htm > Specifically a relationship to Cincinnati ( fairly logical given the River and it's relationship to Regional History ) AND Alsatians ( Also Chicago, naturally enough )
