my ggrandfather, Samuel Duffield Bowman has been a brick wall for me. i happened to find the below which surely has to be him as his father, Farro/Faro/Farrow Bowman was a cooper with (I'm told) a boat on the Ohio River. Samuel Duffield Bowman was born 1856 in Pope Co IL but they have been found invarious places along the river: Carroll Co KY, Trimble Co KY and 'sposidly Samuel married in Switzerland Co IN around 1885 to Amelia "Minnie" Bosaw but no marriage record has yet been found. this Louisville directory is only the 2nd time i have found his man -- previous was at age 4 in the 1860 census for Pope Co IL. if anyone can shed any light in this direction i would be most appreciative. he had siblings James T Bowman b 1850, Hugh MacCollie Bowman b 1857 (also called "Collie"), twins Edward and Edwin b 1860 and Martha b 1864. Collie has been found in a couple census but the others remain illusive also. i did find a Martha Bowman in the 1890 Louisville directory listed as laundress which since finding Samuel Duffield Bowman there in 1886 i tend to think it is his sister. Louisville, Kentucky Directories, 1886 Surname: Bowman Given Name: Duffield MI: Occupation: cooper Address: 2826 Montgomery thanks very much karen bowman clanin in CA
