Anyone have a clue as to where one would go to be married if they lived in Louisville. I know the Hill family lived there but we find no marriages. Someone suggests they might 'go over the line'? Thanks Marge
Marge....it will more than likely be Clark county, Indiana. Well you might try Clark Co., IN (county seat Jeffersonville) or a few miles on down the Ohio R across from the western part of Louisville you could cross the river into Floyd Co., IN (New Albany county seat). A little bit UP river (about 45 miles) there is Jefferson Co., IN (Madison county seat). Not exactly sure what the attraction was to go the another state but it happened a lot and not always for age/parental consent as I had relatives very much in the adult category that were married in IN. (Also north/east of Jefferson Co is Switzerland Co., IN [VeyVey is a city there] and folks from Ky went there, too. [from i.e. Carrollton, KY]). Hope this helps. Nancy D.
