    3. Dear Glenn and Listers, No you've done it. By discussing bars and saloons, you have brought back memories. Perhaps someone can pinpoint a saloon for me. It was on Main St. towards town and away from Baxter Ave. on the River side of the street that John Hoffman had a saloon. I seem to be able to recall the old Hoffman name on the side of a brick building as I think about it. When my grandmother was a girl, I think she worked for her step-dad in the saloon. I have guess that when my grandfather, a youngish, unmarried man, went for lunch, he left his factory and went to the saloon. The factory, which he came to own later was a foundry named Geiger, Coop, and something. It became Louisville Drying Machinery Company. Grandmother may have waited on Grandfather. I suspect that Hoffman, a German immigrant, employed several of his biological and step children in the place. My grandmother was Elizabeth Sebastian. Since her real dad died of a strike in 1874, I suspect the timing of this romance was about 1895, give or take. Probably happened over a short snort and a pickled egg. Anyway, my grandmother, Elizabeth Sebastian Fiske, was much too proper to ever have admitted to even knowing about a saloon, much less to working in one. That was in 1940, when I knew her. I would have seen the Hoffman name on the old brick building in the late 1940's or early 1950's. Tom, the saloonkeeper's step great-grandson. ----- Original Message ----- From: <GVogedes@aol.com> To: <KYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 23, 2002 1:27 PM Subject: Re: [KYJEFFER] Saloons in Louisville > <PRE>Bauer's had 2 locations in Louisville area.
