Hi! The mention of Portland St. caught my eye. My great-grandmother, Celia Armstrong, lived at 3016 Portland in 1915. Does anyone know if that house is still standing? I've been told that my great-grandmother owned a hotel/boarding house called the Stockyard Hotel at one time. I don't know where it was located (though I have a pretty good idea it was near the stockyards ;)). Has anyone ever heard of it? I've looked for Celia in the city directories & she seems to have moved quite a bit. In 1909 she was at 1019 Story, 1917 was 719 Washington, and in 1918, the last place I have for her was 839 E. Main. Are any of these near the stockyards? Are any of these still standing? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. Roxanne
Roxanne, And we meet again- last time was in reference to your Fredricks? As for the Portland address, I looked up on the internet and knowing the location, I suspect it may still be there. I might be in that area tomorrow and will check it out. BTW- it is in the west part of downtown Louisville. For all the other locations you mentioned, they are all in the east part of downtown- all which WAS by the old stockyards. The stockyards was recently torn down and used as a new Home Of the Innocents for children. As for the stockyards hotel, seems I have heard of it but not sure if it still exist. If so, I would say it is now called something other than Stockyards. As for the Washington address, I am certain that home would no longer exist as it has all been torn down and revitalized. If I can be of any other help in re: to, please let me know.
