I will be visiting Kentucky in two weeks and my hope is to locate this cemetery where my 6th gr grandfather, Rev John Hall is buried.> I'm pretty sure that Eden Cemetery is the Vale of Eden Cemetery, also known as the Lawrence Family Cemetery or Lawrence/Dorsey Family Cemetery. It is located on the Shelby Campus of the University of Louisville off Shelbyville Road and Whipps Mill Road. The stone fence which surrounds this cemetery can be seen from Whipps Mill Road. There is a chain link fence around the stone fence. The cemetery is in very poor condition. As of 1986 only eight graves could be distinguished, and only three of these were legible. The cemetery has been vandalized over the years and the several above ground box graves broken into and nearly destroyed. Many of the stones have disappeared completely. The Jefferson County USGenWeb site has listed some burials in this cemetery taken from "The Kentucky Genealogist" a quarterly publication edited by James Bentley, a former director of The Filson. Additional burials were mentioned in W. K. Frederick's "Some Churches and Cemeteries of Jefferson County" published in 1923. Another list available at The Filson was compiled in 1917. Surnames include: Lawrence, Harrison, Dorsey Fuqua, Winchester, Bowles, Thomas and O'Bannon An article about this cemetery and listings of known burials is in the quarterly publication of the Louisville Genealogical Society, "Lines-and-By-Lines" Volume 1, number 2, Summer 1986. The only Hall mentioned is Lycurgus Hall, 1823-1824. The lists and publications mentioned above can be found at The Filson Historical Society, 1310 S. Third Street, Louisville, and probably at other repositories as well. Hope this has been of some help, Deborah
