With Deborah Campisanos posting of Adath Jeshurun Cemetery information, I thought Id try to put together a database of names for the individual Jewish cemeteries so as to learn more about them. With work already done by Alan Murray and a little help of the Wilderness Road Cemetery book, I can come up with partial listings for Adath Jeshurun, Agudath Achim Cemetery and Brith Shalom. Upon looking in the Wilderness Road book, I noticed the author made mention of another. Can anyone identify what this cemetery might be called today? No 128 Owner Unknown Located on Wathen Lane in Southwest part of Louisville, across the street from the south side of the Seagrams distillery, about 150 yards west of US 60 (Dixie Hwy), about 75 ft south of the street, there are about 50 graves. There is not a word of English on a single monument. Every word is in Hebrew. There could have been a small Jewish Synagogue here at one time. There are many Jewish persons buried here, but very few surnames are repeated. The author lists 37 names in this one. Am I leaving out any other Jewish burial grounds? Donnie
I just learned something, maybe. It appears that Adath Jeshurun and Brith Shalom are both on Preston Street. Does anyone know if they simply share an address, or are they one in the same? I see there is also a Kneseth Israel Cemetery, but I need to search for even a small listing of this one. Regarding the previously mentioned unknown Jewish burials in No. 128, I see the author of Wilderness Road Cemeteries also included the very same cemetery in No. 143 of the book, but this time, he gave 24 additional listings. I'm glad I'm not the only one confused with all these cemeteries....hehe. Donnie -----Original Message----- From: Donald L.
