    1. [KYJEFFER] Herbst-Schneider Marriage
    2. <PRE>The records at the County Archives say that my great grandparents, Adam Herbst and Mary Eve Nicholas Schneider, were married Oct. 14, 1851 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. So, I wrote a letter to St. Boniface and enclosed a check to cover their expenses in locating their marriage certificate and some info on their children. The Church wrote back and said they had no info on any members of the Adam Herbst family. Does anyone have the 1851 Jefferson County marriage records and would they check to see if I made a mistake on the date or church or both? Any help appreciated. Bill Brinly

    3. Hi LOUBOY Bill! I just so happens that I've got all 18 rolls of the microfilmed Jefferson Co. Marriage Records on loan at my local friendly Family History Center, and I found that in fact, your g-grands were hitched as indicated: Vol. 5, page 100 Herbst, Adam to Schroerder, Mary Eve married 14 Oct 1851 by Otto Lair [may be "Sair"] "she the widow of James as proved by Andrew Nichlas" license procured 1 Oct 1851 Her name was spelled as above, which might clarify things. That doesn't necessarily help prying the records out of the Church, but at least you do have the date right. If this was my problem, I think I'd check out the Louisville City Directory for 1851 (or the closest date available) to see where they lived and which Catholic Church was closest to them (and also double-check to make sure that Lair/Sair wasn't the Presbyterian minister or something!) If you're sure they were Catholic, you could consider checking to see if the Archdiocese of Louisville has any archives or if any of St. Boniface's records have been microfilmed. (My Louisville lot were all Methodists & Baptists, so I can't be of more specific help to you on this.) Anyhow, good luck and happy hunting, Cheers!
