Could someone tell me what is included in the KY Birth, Marriage and Death Records, 1852-1910 ? Are these for counties other than Louisville and Jefferson County? I know the Louisville Mortuary records start in 1866 to 1910. I was told there were none earlier than 1866. Thanks for a reply, Janis in Louisville

Kentucky started trying to keep Birth, Death AND Marriage records on a "state level" in 1852. It wasn't a complete failure, but the records were far from complete. It wasn't really successful until 1911 (only for births and deaths, which are still incomplete in some places). Most counties ran from 1852 until 1861 (skipping 1860 for some odd reason), although there are some scattered years and counties after that. There are no indexes, although some of the records have been transcribed over the years. The records were in no real order... whichever Dr. decided to comply with the law in whatever order, I think. Usually in the counties I have gone through Births and deaths that occured in the same month are grouped together, but not always. I have not done much with the Jefferson County Vital Satistics for this time period because of shear numbers. If somebody on the list knows of a viable and relatively accurate transcription of these records, please let me know. They are far better than nothing... for some people. If somebody has a lot of time and wants to volunteer to do something for the good of genealogists researching Jefferson County, this may be a good project to try.
