This message is for Lorraine or anyone else who may have information. J B Richy/Riche (b. abt 1797 in France, d. abt 1875 in Louisville) - name was probably John Baptist Richy. Who were his parents and when did he come to Louisville? He is definately in the 1850 census and probably the 1840 census. 1840 census list August Riche age 20-29 with a female in the household 20-29; John B Richey age 40-49 with a male age 0-4, a female age 0-4 and a female age 20-29; and John Richie age 40-49 with a male age 5-9, a female age 5-9, a female age 15-19 and a female age 40-49. The John B Richey family fits the family of my JB Richy fairly well. In the 1820 census there is a Mary Riche with two males in the household one 16-18 (possibly August) and one 19-25 (possibly JB). J B Richy married Pauline Labro (b. abt 1810 in France, d. unknown) about 1835. They had three or four children LOUISA RICHY (b. 1836, m. LOUIS MICHOL). CHARLES NICHOLAS RICHY (b. 1840, d. 1869). He married ODILE AMEDEE AUGUSTA RICHY (b. 21 Jan 1846, d. 15 Dec 1912) possibly SIDONIA RICHY (b. 1844) as passenger list show a Sidonia Richy traveling with Pauline and Louisa on a trip back to France in 1851. However, she does not appear on the 1850 Census. Death or marriage information on any of these individual would be most appreciated as would more complete birth information on the children.
Hello Mary Fran, While I can't answer most of the questions you posed on 3 August, I believe I can help you with a few of them. If JB was in the city of Louisville in 1840 for the Census (as opposed to being out in the country), he probably will be listed in the City Directories. The first CD for Louisville came out in 1832 and then every few years thereafter. It could help narrow down when he came to town - and the tax lists could help even more if he owned land. I did find a few of the family in the Louisville Mortuary Books: Vol. 3 page 20 RICHEY, C.N. male/white/married age 29 yrs cause: delirium tremens duration: 3 days Dr. Koehler attending born "city" residence: 75 W. Richey vol 9; John Richie Vol 9 and Chas W. Richie Vol 11 yet, but I will be doing so next week when the Family History Center is open again. If any of the rest of these folks look promising, let me know and I'll check them out too. I also have the Marriage Registers for Jefferson County on microfilm available, and if you have marriages you'd like me to check, let me know. For those, I need fairly good date estimates, as there are 18 rolls of microfilm to check (by date of course!), as opposed to a "mere" 9 rolls for the mortuary books. So, here's some preliminary information, and I'll be back with the second installment soon. Cheers!
