I posted this on genforum awhile back, but perhaps it will be useful to someone. I am not researching this family except in connection with the Floyd family, to which there is no direct link. Here are some Jefferson Co. KY Marriages from Marriage Book 1, Jefferson Co. Archives. Most were performed by James Vance who was a minister at Anchorage Presbyterian Church. Anchorage is a small community in the northeastern part of Jefferson Co. Page 66 David Augustus m. Jane Kennedy, legal age. Bond John Augustus. I picked up the following BURKS because James and Matilda Covington Ross Burks are buried within a half mile of John Floyd, on property that was originally owned by John Floyd. The Burks family is related to the Davis family in Amherst Co. VA, and I thought perhaps the Burks would be related to the Floyd family through the Davises. They probably are, but I have been unable to make a connection. I know that the will of John Burks is in the the Jefferson Co. Rootsweb archives. I have the following marriages in Jefferson Co. KY that relate to the the BURKS family: James Burks to Matilda Ross, widow of Presley N. Ross 8/7/1823 (Note: She is Matilda Covington, daughter of Philip Covington. Burial is in the cemetery at The Springs shopping center, in the middle of the parking lot. She inherited the property that included Big Springs Country Club from her first husband, who was a son of Lawrence Ross and Susannah Oldham.) James Burks to Nancy Clark, father George Clark 9/1/1825 John Burks to Nancy Kimberlin, parents George and Mary Ann Kimberlin 7/7/1822 John Burks to Elizabeth Welch/Welsh father Samuel Welch 11/25/1814 John Mc Dowell m. Nancy Burks, father John Burks. Bond William Floyd, Witness Will Johnston (whose sister is the wife of Davis Floyd, nephew of John Floyd) 9/15/1791 Samuel Burks to Amanda Fine, father Jacob Fine. 6/20/1824

Thank you for reading this. Does anyone have access to Jefferson County census records from 1890-1900 ? I am looking for info on Charles Byerly & Florence Matthews. Address in 1920 was 2100 Burnette Avenue. Would appreciate any help. Sincerely, Patty Reilly
I am looking for information on Peter Pfaff, born about 1800. He arrived in New York, April 1832 with his wife Anne Marie and children, Jacob, Frances, Jn Baptiste, and Anne Marie. That is the last I have on this family until Anne Marie, his daughter, married in Louisville, Kentucky in 1848. I do not have any information on her parents or brothers and sister. Dates of birth, from the ship log, are as follows: Peter Pfaff; born abt 1800 Anne Marie Pfaff, born about 1792 Jacob Pfaff, born about 1814 (probably Anne's son from a previous marriage?) Jn Baptiste Pfaff, born about 1826 Anna Maria Pfaff, born June 20, 1827 Frances Pfaff, born about 1829 Does anyone else have any information on this family? Thanks, Jeanette
Would someone know where to send for a copy of a naturalization record about 1880 in louisville or the address to the Jefferson co. department for historic Preservation and Archives . Thanks

Gustave and August are the same name in different languages. Depended where the person lived at the time, and who they were trying to impress. It all comes down to one thing, the guys name was Gus. Another reason for Gustave vs August is that Augustus/Augustinius Augustyn/Auguste is the actual name. Gustave is the shortened version. The name can be shortened to August, Gustave, Gustaef, Gus Sincerely, Pat ----- Original Message ----- From: <DiALLAMAN@aol.com> To: <KYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 19, 2002 6:08 PM Subject: [KYJEFFER] Re: KYJEFFER-D Digest V02 #188 > In regards to your Gustave vs August, I'll tell you what I have found in > my family research.
