    3. Here's a quote from the Cave Hill Cemetery book published in 1985: "A string of narrow lakes, running north-south, bisect the main road and they also demarcate the pre-1890 part of the cemetery to the west from the post-1890 development to the east." On the map of the cemetery, the earlier sections are alphabetical and the later ones numerical. As you enter the cemetery from Baxter Ave., you go through the earlier sections to get to the Administration Building. If you've never been to Cave Hill, you really should try to get there. It's beautiful, especially in the spring when the redbuds and dogwoods are in bloom. Pat Settle, Drummond Island, Michigan Richard Hofheins <rhofhei@attglobal.net> wrote: Would the earlier Sections of the cemetery be those listed as A, B, C etc with the later being those of numerals? 3. Charlie, According to Roseann Reinemuth Hogan's "Kentucky Ancestry: A Guide to Genealogical and Historical Research," the Ardery Collection contains genealogical material on related families from Bourbon County and the counties surrounding Bourbon. Paris, KY is the county seat of Bourbon. Another large genealogical collection is the Barton Collection which covers Pendleton and northern (eastern) Kentucky counties. The Special Collections library at the University of Kentucky has a card index for the Barton Collection. 3. Dear Jeannine, Thanks for sharing your information on the Duncan-Malott connection. This matches closely with what I have. "Now that the people are looking forward to the great Confederate reunion at Louisville, there is a great deal of talk among old soldiers about the things that happened in the sixties, says the Elizabethtown News. In a conversation with a group of them Monday we learned that the youngest soldier in the famous Orphan Brigade was Mr. Henry Harned, living at Boston and well known to most our people. He enlisted in 1861 at the age of 16 and was one of the bravest and best soldiers in this remarkable brigade. he was in every battle with this incomparable command and stood where shot and shell frequently mowed down his comrades in great numbers, yet never got a scratch during the entire war. Ed Porter Thompson in his history of the brigade, speaks of him by name as one of the very bravest and best soldiers and as there was another Henry Harned, he was known throughout the brigade as "Little Henry". There were six Harneds in the Confederate army. Four of them were killed in battle, one lost an arm. He will attend the reunion In Louisville and expects to meet a number of his old comrades." Henry Sprigg Harned, son of Henry Harned II and Charlotte Johnson, was born on Novemeber 9th, 1843, at Boston, Kentucky. he was five feet eight inches tall with blue eyes and dark hair. 3. Hiram Malott settled sometime in the early 1800s in the Fern Creek/Middletown area. His farm was close to present day Volney Ct./Hurstbourne Prkway area. Hiram and some of his family are buried in J-town cemetery. He had a daughter who married a Batman. Most of his descendants moved to Indiana and then further west. He was a cousin to my Elias Malott who settled near Penn Run. His farm is now Cinderella Estates and Wesley Manor Nursing/Retirement communtiy on East Manslick Rd. I remember seeing the name Malott on an old map that hung at the Filson when it was on Breckinridge Lane. Malott was near Seatonville, if I recall, and was named for the postmaster, one of Hiram grandson's or gr-grandsons. Original message: From: <CatMom1@aol.com> To: <KYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Subject: [KYJEFFER] James Vance; Malott family I have run into the Malott name before when I was helping someone with Postlethwaits (I think? it was several years ago.) 3. A David Augustus also ended up in Daviess Co., KY early on. He and his wife Sally were both born about 1788 in Virginia (from 1850 Census). They were the parents of Frances Jane Augustus who married William Worthington in 1841 in Daviess Co., and Elizabeth Augustus b. 1830) who married Robert G (possibly Gilchrist) Miller (1819-1872) in 1850. I have quite a bit on the family of the latter. Robert G. Miller was the brother of my g-g-g- grandmother and nephew of my g-g-g-g-grandmother (different lines). These Millers started in Caroline Co., VA moved to Henry Co., KY then on to Daviess and Hancock Cos., KY. I know NOTHING about any other Miller families. The Filson Historical Society has a great deal on James Francis Moore and his descendants. If you haven't had a chance yet, check out what they have on the third floor in Special Collections. Very extensive research on the family. The Moore family file folder in the second floor library also contains a wealth of information on this family. Many years ago, I wrote an article for Ancestral News," the quarterly of Ancestral Trails Historical Society on using circuit court case files in genealogy. One of the cases I cited was Jefferson Circuit Court, Chancery, #8031, dated 1855. Plaintiff: William Graham; Defendant Joseph H.D. Moore. Graham brought suit in order to perfect his title to land he had pruchased from the executors and heirs of James F. Moore's estate. Moore's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. were named. The case even mentioned who was alive, dead, and where each defendant was living. If I remember right, more than 50 descendants of Moore were named. You can order a copy of this suit from the state archives. See www.kdla.state.ky.us for a form you can use to order a copy of the case file. It was amazing. I think there are several Moore descendants who have joined the DAR or SAR on Moore. Their application papers would also document his descendants. Vance presided at the marriage of my Rebecca Malott and John Thompson in 1810. Both lived in the Penn Run neighborhood. Deborah

    1. [KYJEFFER] Housecleaning: James Francis Moore Family et. al. prior to 1835
    2. I have been trying to piece together the families of James Francis Moore and his brother, John Gay Moore. John Gay Moore is an ancestor of my neighbor who does not use a computer--yet. I found a copy of abstracts of early Jefferson Co. Wills at the Louisville library, which coupled with marriage records, presents a slightly larger list of children of James Francis Moore of Fish Pools Plantation. Will of James Francis Moore Written 7/18/1807 Recorded 1/8/1810 Will Book 1 page 228 Mentions wife Elizabeth, daughters Elizabeth Pendergast, Cassandra Miller, Zeruiah Jones, sons Hector Moore, Nimrod Moore Will of Elizabeth Moore, widow of James F. Moore Written 2/12/1833 recorded 4/7/1834 Will Book 3 page 10 Mentions sons Robert K. Moore, Joseph Moore, James F. Moore Will of Robert K. Moore Written 3/24/1838 recorded 9/3/1838 Will Book 3 page 160 Mentions sister Cassandra Miller, brothers Hiram W., Joseph Hamilton David Moore, Nephew Robert K. Moore If all of this is correct, then the children of James Francis Moore based upon wills are: Elizabeth m. Jesse Pendergast Cassandra Moore m. Robert Miller (not to be confused with John Gay Moore's daughter Cassandra Moore who married William K. Miller) Zeruiah Moore m. John Jones Hector Moore m. Elizabeth N. Luckett, mother Molly A. Luckett Nimrod Moore Hiram W. Moore Joseph Hamilton David Moore James Francis Moore Jr. There are a few other Moores that pop up that may tie into this family as well: Peter Higgins m. Maria W. Moore, father James Moore deceased, 8/28/1819 (since James Francis Moore's second wife was Elizabeth Higgins, this seems really likely to be a daughter.) Harrow D. Moore m. Rebecca Burge, father deceased 4/26/1820 Francis A. Moore m. Sarah Ferguson, father David Ferguson 5/9/1820 George W. Moore m. Mary C. Shively, father Philip Shively, guardian William Shively 7/12/1823 Alexander Moore m. Mary Kuykendall 3/5/1793 (More MOORE Marriages to follow in another message)
