I have been told and have not been able to confirm that Martha Kaufman married a Barringer . Martha was born in 1832 and the dau. of Joseph Kaufman who came to America around 1825 or in that time frame as he had a son born in the States in 1828. Do you have anything on this family ?? It would be "a great find" if you do. <PRE>From this description, Bullitt St. is sitting squarely under the Belvedere Plaza, near the Galt house Hotel.
Also from a "Standard Pocket Street Directory of Louisville" dated 1938 Bullitt Street from Main north to Water Street, between 4th and 5th Streets. Glenn.
According to an old Caron's Directory: Bullitt St., from Main north to Water, west of 4th Street. However, the numbers run from 103 to 146. The exact date of this directory is not known, however, I believe it's from around 1916. Water Street entries: Water Street, from Shelby East to Campbell, north of Franklin Street Water Street, from 1st Street west with river to 10th street and from Canal Locks Portland, west to city limits. (1st to 5th, then 33rd to 36th Street) This location today would be under the present day Galt House Hotels and the Belvedere. Hope this helps some. Glenn.
Hi Smokey and everyone else interested in the old maps, I went to the website http://www.davidrumsey.com/ and downloaded their software Insight Browser by clicking on it. Afterwards, you can go to a page with a search engine -- I searched by keywords and put in "Louisville" . The map I got was from an old atlas and dated 1897 - the quality is excellent. Good luck. Any suggestion as to the current location of what was 10 Bullitt St. (near Water Street) in 1873? I can't find either on modern maps. Thanks, SK
Thanks everyone for continuing to let me question your expertise. Does anyone have access to marriage records 1877-1878 for the Louisville area?? Pretty sure the year will be 1877. Looking for the mariage of Charles Byerly b. Louisville Apr.1854 to Florence Matthews b. 1859 Indiana. Thanks again for any help. Sincerely, Patty Reilly
>From the KYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com site, I saw where <NFMich@aol.com> writing to Brenda who may have the ability to do lookups in the 1870-1880 Louisville directory. I am seeking information on the Kahler & Dugan families who reputedly lived in Louisville in that time period. There would have been a Jerry Kahler and Ellen Dugan in their teens--parents unknown. Brenda, if you indeed can do lookups, I would certainly appreciate it--and of course appropriate remuneration would follow. Perhaps we can communicate! Bill Foss on the Central Coast of CA
I read that Brenda was doing lookups in the 1870-1880 Louisville directory. Could you please lookup a family for me? I am looking for Hercules Hays, Mary Eva Hays (wife), and Birdie Mary Hays (daughter). Hercules was born about 1850, Eva was born in 1858, and Birdie was born about 1876-1878. Hercules may have been living with his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Eliza Hays and George Winston Bennett, in the early 1870s. Thanks so much, Nancy
Do you mean Orele Drive? Mona
<PRE>The Goss Cemetery would be The Louisville Cemetery, which is at the corner of Poplar Level and Eastern Parkway, just before you come to St. Xavier School. Once Poplar Level crosses Eastern Parkway, it becomes Goss Ave., and is quite urban in density.
Hello fellow researchers, Looking again for Alonzo Arnold in Jefferson/Louisville area. He would be married to Margaret Chambers. Possibly living with the Chambers family, because I can't find him alone with wife and one child Clara, another Lawrence Paul. If anyone has the resources, I would appreciate a look up. His mother was Margaret Arnold, father unknown. I don't believe she would be alive at this time. In 1880 Alonzo & his widowed mother were living with Alonzos' widowed brother Thomas in Johnstown. Thanks again. sincerely, Patty reilly
I was going through the death records for the 1870's and ran acrossed a few cemeteries that I do not know. The first was called Goss, where is that? I know its not St. Michael's because it was also listed. Also, I saw a death of a person who died at the Refuge House and was buried there, does anyone know what cemetery that was? Thanks all! Debbie
Dear Listers, Please forgive my personal note which, since it involved economics, was totally uninteresting to most people. I am hoping someone will have a city directory for Louisville during the period 1867-1875, which will tell me where Charles A. Fisk/Fiske lived. Tom the bewildered
Dear Listers, Thanks to the help of some of you on the List, I found Charles A. Fisk/Fiske in 1880. He was in the sixth ward in Louisville. Probably he was there in 1870, but he showed up on no census for any state. Maybe he and his family were on his riverboat the day the census was taken. He was a steamboat pilot on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers in those days. But, he might have been in an 1870 city directory, or a directory between 1867 and 1875. Does anyone have a copy of an old Louisville Directory that appeared during the years 1867 and 1875 who would be willing to look for Charles A. Fisk/Fiske? He was 41 in 1870 and his wife's name was Rose or Rosanna. Thanks Tom the bewildered
Hi, Sorry, that date of death for Magdalena Hofelich was actually in 1923, not 1906. Barb T
Hi, I have a death certificate for Magdalena Hofelich. It gives her address as 2344 Transit Avenue. I can't find that street in my Louisville street map book or in a fairly recent map of Louisville. I can't find it on the 1900 Census, either. She died in 1906. Does anyone know what name Transit Avenue was changed to, or am I just missing it? Thanks, Barb T
Could someone please tell me if Shannon (or anyone else) is still doing obituary lookups - will be glad to pay for this - thank you - Ahlive
Dear Listers, I have gone through the 1870 FTM census index for Charles A. Fisk/Fiske and cannot find him. As some have pointed out, he is in the 6th Ward for Jefferson County, KY in 1880, listed as Charles Fisk. That's cool. Now I need to know where CAF was, a decade earlier. In 1860 he was in New Albany, Indiana. But he was also a riverboat pilot on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, and could have lived in any of several cities along the water's edge. Chances are that he was still in the 6th Ward in Louisville, KY, and was somehow overlooked in 1870. But, since 1870 census index CD does not cover every state there is a possibility that he was living in Memphis, TN. Charles A. Fisk/Fiske would have been about 42 in 1870, living with his wife, Rosa and four children: Ada, Charles, Edward, and George (or Walter). If you have access to a better 1870 census index than I have would you please give it a look and let me know if you see Charles lurking on a darkened page? Thanks, Tom the bewildered
