In fact, at the Kenton County Public Library there is a file in the family files for HOLTZCLAW. Could this be a link to your family? If so, you can ask the Kenton County Public Library for look-ups for a small fee. I notice that there are also some newspaper articles about HOLTZCLAW that the library could copy for you. Be sure to give them your complete email address so they can mail your copy/copies to you. Email them your request at: dschroed@kenton.lib.ky.us Hope this helps! S. Jobert

Does anyone know if midwives had to have any kind of a license or certification in Kentucky in the 1800's? My ancestor, Elizabeth Leuba was listed in the Lexington City Directory in 1818 as a midwife and also in the Louisville City Directory (she moved there in 1840) under Physicians in the 1859/6 Directory. Sorry... The name of Margaret Chambers was not Huber...but HARBOR!!!! Patty
Thanks For reading this listers. I believe I already asked if anyone knows about the "Margaret Chambers Arnold Papers" which are written by Margaret Chambers Arnold. She was the daughter of George W. Chambers, a veteran of the War of 1812, and a county judge. She also was related to James Chambers who was killed in 1801 in a duel with John Rowan. This collection hold miscellaneous info about the Chambers family. The date of this info is listed as 1867 to 1948. My gggrandmother Margaret Chambers was born in Louisville 1867, and died in Louisville in 1948. She was married to Alonzo Arnold. Her father was George W. Chambers born in Bardstown. Mother was Margaret Huber born in Louisianna. Does anyone know if this could be the same family????? These records are at the Filson Library?? Thanks. Sincerely, Patty
As for Alice Sebastian who married My ggg-uncle George Jerome. Alice's parents were Charles and Emma Sebastian, Charles born in MO. Emma in Va. Charles was a {Steam boat Pilot} this all I have of her family, would love to know more information on this family. Alice and George had a son also named Columbus. George died when he was 25 years old of the yellow fever in Memphis, TN. His wife and child came back to her home and lived with her parents, I have no other record of them after that time 1880. George's father Columbus Jerome b. 1830 in France due to his death record, but all census have KY. This is as far back as I can go. My ggg-grandmother was Josephine Maroney, born in Ireland lived and had children in KY. George b. 1854 and Josephine 1856 Best Regards B.J.
Would Alice Sebastian be related to the mysterious Benjamin Sebastian, by any chance? I say mysterious--he appeared out of nowhere, bought land in St. Matthews from Jane Floyd, became embroiled in the Spanish Conspiracy...

Dear Listers, I am a Sebastian. It is my middle name, but we were Bavarians who arrived in Louisville in 1856, give or take. The English Sebastians had already been there for many years. Whatever the case for Alice, it is important to segregate the two families. If you are dealing with the pre-1855 era, you are dealing with the Benjamin Sebastian clan. T. Hi, What line of Smith's where you looking for? Names, dates, places etc. would help narrow them down. Also if you have what county they came from. I do have a couple of lines of Smith that I'm researching. Folks in memory of a very special lady who helped bring me into this world, her KENTUCKY festival week will end this 5th of October 2002. Hope those who do not know her will visit Leslie County, KY now or in the future. She was a lady who stepped into the business world with high ideals, in a very desolate area of the United States with one main purpose in life, to bring medical care to those who need, at a critical time in history. The legacy of Mary Breckinridge is still ongoing for such a special lady, who could be a part of so many family genealogies in her lifetime.
