    2. Thomas Fiske
    3. Dear Glenn and Listers, No you've done it. By discussing bars and saloons, you have brought back memories. Perhaps someone can pinpoint a saloon for me. It was on Main St. towards town and away from Baxter Ave. on the River side of the street that John Hoffman had a saloon. I seem to be able to recall the old Hoffman name on the side of a brick building as I think about it. When my grandmother was a girl, I think she worked for her step-dad in the saloon. I have guess that when my grandfather, a youngish, unmarried man, went for lunch, he left his factory and went to the saloon. The factory, which he came to own later was a foundry named Geiger, Coop, and something. It became Louisville Drying Machinery Company. Grandmother may have waited on Grandfather. I suspect that Hoffman, a German immigrant, employed several of his biological and step children in the place. My grandmother was Elizabeth Sebastian. Since her real dad died of a strike in 1874, I suspect the timing of this romance was about 1895, give or take. Probably happened over a short snort and a pickled egg. Anyway, my grandmother, Elizabeth Sebastian Fiske, was much too proper to ever have admitted to even knowing about a saloon, much less to working in one. That was in 1940, when I knew her. I would have seen the Hoffman name on the old brick building in the late 1940's or early 1950's. Tom, the saloonkeeper's step great-grandson. ----- Original Message ----- From: <GVogedes@aol.com> To: <KYJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 23, 2002 1:27 PM Subject: Re: [KYJEFFER] Saloons in Louisville > <PRE>Bauer's had 2 locations in Louisville area. 3. Hi Julie, I have information on saloons and breweries in Louisville. I have done a city directory time-line on my family, "BOTT", since they had a brewery and saloon during this time period. Since your name is also a "B", the name BAUER is on some city directory pages I have copied. Also, the book "Breweries of Louisville" has several BAUER names in the index. The names you mentioned are not listed. Do you have any other BAUER names that might be related. Janis in Louisville

    3. I also seem to recall a Bauer's Inn or something like that in the 1950's when I was a lad in Louisville, and it must have been in the east end somewhere. I always looked too young to be sold anything in a saloon, so I wasn't closely acquainted with the place. No one asks me my age any more, unless it is in connection with a senior citizen discount. 3. According to the 1886 Louisville directory, my gg-grandfather, Henry Charles BAUER was a saloon keeper. His wife, Mrs. Caroline Bauer, is listed as living at 829 E Main. Was there a saloon at or near this address? Thanks for any help you can give me. Julie When I searched for ancestors, I found friends! --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Y! 1. [KYJEFFER] Looking for info on Morrison.
    2. Tiffany Leigh Morrison
    3. I need some advice for finding some information or possibly have someone to do a lookup. I will try and summarize this.. We were researching my 4th and 5th great grandfathers and found out we went down the wrong path. My ggggreat grandfather Theodore Morrison was born 3-3-1841 in Louisville, died in 1911. All information we could gather indicated that his parents were George Morrison (b. b/w 1821-1822 in va, died 1847) and Nancy Hobbs (b. b/w 1821-1822 in VA, died 1904). My cousin finally got George's pension file in the mail the other day. Come to find out, Theodore was not biologically Theodore's father. George just raised Theo as his son. He was already 6 when Nancy Married George in Carrollton KY in 1847. Turns out Theo's fathers surname is KIRK, we think the first name is John. The paperwork also indicates Nancy's name was not Hobbs, but Nancy Williams. I have done some looking, but nothing has turned up and I really don't know where to start. We don't think they were married. Any suggestions? I live out of state and I already have a membership to Filison. Thanks.
