    1. Re: [KYJEFFER] Barmore
    2. You are correct, Shippingport Island was an island in the middle of the Ohio in the Portland area. The island was partially flooded when they put a canal in between the island and Portland, then it seems like a utility company put some type of station at one end of the island and finally it was purchased by whoever is responsible for the McAlpine Lock and Dam. At that point it was completely flooded. I became familiar with many of the street names by checking the Caron's directory at the Louisville Library which will often indicate Shippingport with the address given. If you are not in the Louisville area send me the names of the family and time period and I'll check the Caron's listing next time I'm at the library. There is also a book called the Encyclopedia of Louisville which I'm sure you can find at the Library that has some additional info on Shippingport. If you have any additional questions just let me know. Darcey

Pacific Standard Time, [email protected] writes: I am researching the Barmore family from Shippingport Island as follows: I think one of our Johnson relatives married a Barmore. When they had their big reunion 12 years ago part of the festivities were held at a Barmore home. My husband thinks it was a Willis Barmore but not sure. Will have to go through my records. Just wanted to let you know there still are Barmores in the Louisville area. :) Paulina

    3. Darcey, I am curious when you mention "Shippingport Island". My Aunt claims my grandparents lived there. However, based on my research and per census for this particular family I believe differently. Based on census, they actually lived in the most Northern- East part of downtown Louisville. This area I speak of is East of the bridges where say Frankfort Ave. currently dies into OLD River Road. Based on other research, I have always found where Shippingport was actually an island in the middle of the Ohio River and north of current Portland. History has where it was overtaken by water. Any additional ideas?? Also, I have 1 pic which pertains to this family. The pic contains abt. 20-30 males at I assume a place of employment, I can not identify anyone or the place. I am sure it most likely contains a few of my relatives. Suggestions?? 2. Donald L. Murphy
    3. It just occurred to me I made a promise to make an announcement about having placed a few more cemeteries online at the Metro Louisville-Jefferson County KyGenWeb site and failed to do so. Thanks to the efforts of Joellen Tyler Johnston, I was able to put a complete listing of burials at Chenoweth Run Cemetery online. Other cemeteries in which I added partial transcriptions during the holidays were the Anderson Family Cemetery, Floyd's Fork Baptist Churchyard, Forwood-Potts Cemetery, Harbold Cemetery, Rudy Graveyard and updates to the Quillman Cemeteries. If you have or know of any other data relating to any Jefferson County cemetery, I sure would appreciate hearing about it, especially locations of the older family cemeteries I do not yet have linked to a page. As always, I thank you all so much. Donnie Donald Murphy [email protected] Jefferson County Cemeteries http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyjeffer/cems/cemeteries.html

    3. Just discover a reference to a Albert WALKERr married to Belle STROXTILE on 30 th April, 1896 in Jeff. Co. Ky. If Anyone has any information on either person on their parents, or even thier children, I would be Thrilled. Stroxtile is my maiden name. After 17 - 20 yr I felt I would not go any further back than William STOCKSDILL/STROXTILE b. 1841 - 45 and fought in the Civil war and his pension and his m. and 8 children. I have the list of his brothers and sisters , but nothing on them .!! I know where Wm died and tracked him most of his life from 1860 on. ( he was b. in Russel Co. Ky) . But this Belle Stroxtile is a new one on me. Wm had a daughter named Elizabeth and one Lizzie and one Bertha. But anyway, if anyone has any information about Albert or Belle, you would make my day, !!! Nancy S. Lloyd

    1. Re: [KYJEFFER] iso Orville HARRIS
    2. Send for the death certificate, the ones of who can get the ones on microfilm, can only get them from 1911-1952, so you will have to send to Frankfort for the death certificate, this should tell the parents names, and the informant maybe be related also. If this is the right one you can then get an Obit, to see all the other information. Does she know where he was Born? the two that show up are probably the ones you have the census on, one was born IN, the other in KY. I think if it was one of these, the Orville in Jacobs Parks must be him, and 33. There is an Orr HARRIS Black age 31, with a wife Senora. You might want to look at the birth certificate for him. Or you might want to get the Social security paers here is the one that was Born in IN. Also you can join the KYcensus-lookup-lookup site, there are all name listings on Ancestry, and they would maybe be able to find him in the 1900 census since he would be 14. There are 296 Harris families in the 1900 census so with t! he all name index that is your best shot Orville D Harris - International Genealogical Index / NA Gender: Male Birth: 12 APR 1885 Clay Twp, Wayne, Indiana -- Teddy List Mom for the Grayson Co Ky List, Brady, Vertrees, Ford, Fulkerson, and Commonwealth http://www.kygenweb.net/pd-res/deford.html -------------- Original message -------------- > My sister and I have different fathers and I am trying to help her find her > father's family history information. Notice names of streets are alphabetical, I believe running up to M. Hope this helps, Glenn
