Bob, The Louisville Public Library, Main Branch, does have the death certificates on microfilm 1911-1953. There is also the index 1911-1995 on fiche and some hard copy indexes. Perhaps you asked for a certificate dated after 1952 or 1953. For these, you would have to contact the Office of Vital Statistics for a copy. The Filson Historical Society in Louisville also has the indexes and the microfilmed certificates from 1911-1952 or 53. I am looking for help with the Henry Clay/America Adams family. They operated a boarding house in Louisville in the early 1900's.They had 5-7 children. One son was Winfield Ross Adams b.1893.I think Henry was born in Ky.but not Jefferson county.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Rita
Hello Helpers, I am confused about something. I live out of town so I can't get to the main library in Louisville. So, a couple of months ago I was working with a potential relative to look up some death certificates on Microfilm. Turns out she is not related so I didn't want to bother her again. Anyway, I would give her the death cert references from the index and she would look them up and send me the info on them via email. I thought I might get the free "ask-the-librarian" service to give me some of their free 30 minute time to look one up, but they responded that they do not have them, they only have the death index and I would need to contact the Vital Records dept to get the info that's on the certificate. Can someone "unconfuse" me? Thanks Bob __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? All your favorites on one personal page Try My Yahoo! http://my.yahoo.com
If you don't have his Civil War pension records, you need to get them, there were 1312 Williams, Robert, and I didn't know what State he was in when he servered, I have found a man that can get them up for about $17.00, if there are not many many pages. It turns out that old obits do cost $12.00 since they are in the archives off sight, but two of the ones I happen to need are from 1996 so they are only $4.00 each. I think that is more reasonable and wanted to share that with other folks who might need obits that are still in the CJ database. Thanks to all who offered to get them for me cheaper than the $12.00. Pam
Hello to all :-) I just recorded some burial info on a family and found something quite odd, I think? There were 4 people in the same family and extended family, that were all buried on March 10, 1880 in Louisville. I looked through the epidemics listed for Louisville and its only showing yellow fever in 1873, with the next epidemic being in 1918. Would the yellow fever epidemic last for 7 years? Debbie
Wasn't there someone on this list who worked or had access to the public library archives that held CJ newspapers? Surely the public library can offer a copy of an obit cheaper than $12.00. Or if it is still that expensive, can someone send a RAOK person down to get a copy of the obit at the library cheaper? A certified copy of the death certificate costs half what a xerox copy of an obit is. I don't understand that if someone has the exact date of death. totally frustrated, Pam
Thank you to everyone who replied with suggestions about my research request. I wanted to let you know what I did so other people can know it is an option. I was told that microfilm of the Courier-Journal is available on interlibrary loan. This is a viable option, but for this particular project I was looking for a quicker answer. The solution for me was to order a copy of the obituary directly from the newspaper. The phone number listed on their website is (502) 582-4545. If you have the date of death, it costs $12. If they cannot find an obituary, you do not pay anything. They said the turnaround time is one week. If you're willing to pay this kind of charge, it sounds like it may be a good way to obtain obits from any newspaper. Paul
I am also looking for obits and received an email from the local newspaper (Courier Journal) saying they only keep obits to 2001 in their archives. The email said to contact Reader's Service Dept between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. M - F at (502) 582.4545 for obits before 2001. Pam
Does anyone on this list, happen to have any information on Franklin Co. or know of any good sites for that county? Thank you, Debbie
Hello list, I am seeking information about an Allen D. Story who died on 5 Aug 1979 in Jefferson County, KY. I have ordered his death certificate but would like to know if anyone has easy access to a newspaper to do an obituary lookup. I have never done any Louisville, KY research so any pointers would be helpful. Thanks, Paul

Looking for info on the address of "146 Weissinger-Gaulbert Annex." Was this an apartment or private residence and where is it located? Thanks, Nancy
