If they are George 13 and Frank 12 they are in an orphan asylum in 1860, and it says they were B KY. Frank is in the 1870 cesnus as a Mail Boat Office clerk. Maybe they are in the 1850 census. What is the Surname's you are looking for? I can look for them in the census records if the names is not too common. Jefferson Co does have microfilm that has the births marriages and deaths for 1852, 1854-1859 then 1900-1906 then 1908 and 1909 it then says available Births from 1898 to 1910. Has someone made a book for this? this microfilm is sold at the KY Archives in Frankfort. The last I heard it was $18.00 for the microfilm. You just have to be close to a microfilm reader. -- Teddy List Mom for the Grayson Co Ky List, Brady, Vertrees, Ford, Fulkerson, and Commonwealth http://www.kygenweb.net/pd-res/deford.html -------------- Original message -------------- > I'm searching for the parents names of two brothers that immigrated to > Louisville. I have found my great great grandfather, Solomon Baugh, along with his children in the 1860 Jefferson Co., KY census. Their name was mispelled as "Baw", but it is them! They are as follows: Solomon Baugh, 47/m, head, farmer Mary, 13/f, daughter Abram, 12/m, son James, 9/m, son (my great grandfather) Margaret, 6/f, daughter Ben, 3/m, son I know that Solomon's wife, Martha Triplett Baugh died in Jefferson County in 1859. Per the census, the family is living in the Fisherville area. Our family legend has it that all of the family, except James and Ben, died in some sort of attack on the family farm. James and Ben were sent to live with relataives. Whether true or not, I don't know. Also, I don't know who or where the relatives were. I am hoping that someone on list might have information about my Baughs. Of note, in the Fisherville area in 1860 there were over 400 households. In the1870 census, there were less than 200. Was there a westward migration r/t the Civil War, an epidemic, or something. I am hoping someone with local history information can tell me. Thanking you for any help. Dora Savage Albrecht
Bob, In the 1850 census, I find your George NOLD with wife Catherine and three children, George, Frank and Mary. In 1860, all three children are in St. Joseph's Orpanage. Did both parents die prior to 1860? You listed one of the NOLD brothers died in 1864? Thanks Debbie and Teddy for responding back. Yes that is the correct family. Also in the 1850 Census is George Sr.'s brother William (b. 1/1/1803 d. 4/23/1864). I am trying to go one generation up looking for George and William's parents in Germany. I knew Catherine died in 1857 shortly after remarrying her second husband in 1854. We always assumed that George had died, thus the reason the three ended up in an orphanage and the reason why Catherine remarried. However, I just found info stating George died in 12/16/1891 (b. 1801). (but no sign of him in Census records after 1850 ) With this newly found actual death date, I though I'd renew my attempt to find the parents if I could now locate an obituary or death certificate for him. --- Debbie <[email protected]> wrote: > Bob, > In the 1850 census, I find your George NOLD with wife Catherine and > three > children, George, Frank and Mary. Thanks for offering Teddy but the surnames won't help (It's NOLD by the way). They both came to the US in the 1840's without their parents - mom and dad remained in Germany. (no sign of them in LDS' familysearch either). Someone else suggested that church records may have some info. I know the date and place for one of them - George Nold m. Katherine Weadman 11/24/1845 at St. Paul's Evang. I hadn't thought about church records but have absolutely no idea how to even go about that. Can anyone guide me? (I live in Florida but could probably recruit a family member). Thanks Bob --- [email protected] wrote: > What is the Surname's you are looking for? I'm searching for the parents names of two brothers that immigrated to Louisville. I have the brothers' death dates (one in 1864 and one in 1891) and thought if I found an obit or death cert for one of these guys I may be able to find their parents. From what I've learned, the process for death certs is pretty easy for deaths from 1911-on, but what about prior to that. Are they even available? I've seen some folk advertising their services to look up up obits, but is it likely they would find them if that old? It would probably be hit or miss if the info I need is even in the obit. Educate me! (I'm a newbie) Thanks Bob __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - Find what you need with new enhanced search. http://info.mail.yahoo.com/mail_250
I am seeking any information the list members may have on living persons of the BURKHART family that lived on Parklawn drive in 1940s, 1950s in the 2700 block. Would really appreciate any data that would lead to a contact with any of the family. That area is south of Eastern Pkwy and East of Preston street and near Parkway drive. They were my neighbors across the street from my home at 2711 Parklawn Dr. as my family moved away in late 1956 to Cresent Hill area. JOHN in CA (formerly of Louisville)

Malachi 3:3 says: "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God. One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study. That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about The process of refining silver. As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities. The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot then she thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined. The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed. The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy - when I see my image in it." If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has His eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do

You can possibly send a letter to the Kentucky Archives Library in Frankfort, Kentucky and they could possibly do them for you. The number is 502-564-8300. There is a fee, but they might be able to do them at a cheaper rate. They have 1911 to 1953 or 1952. When I go there, you can copy these for something like 50 cents. The Kentucky Historical Society, 502-564-1792, also might have a service where you send a letter and they make copies and send them to you. There rate is 30 cents, I believe, but you would need to call them to find out the details. These will also be uncertified copies. After 1952 or the 1953 timeperiod, you would need to call the Vital Records office. I do not have their phone number handy, at this time. Another thing that I might add, is that some Researchers will advertise that they will do look ups and copy the Certificates or whatever piece of information that you are interested in and that might be a possibility. I have seen these people, many times, when I have gone to The Archives Library and the Historical Society. Jeff Jeppson
