    1. Tricks for the IGI batch #'s
    2. Debbie
    3. I've had a few people email me asking how you obtain the IGI batch numbers from the familysearch.org website. There are a couple tricks you can use to try and locate them to see if there are any for other counties, or for that matter, any other counties in other states. The best luck I've had, is with using a common last name that you have seen for the specific county you're working on, or the last name you're working on. Go to the IGI section on familysearch, put in North America, the state and the county and put in either the name you want, or pick a common last name. Don't put in a first name at all. I have made several trips to the local Mormon church library, and was surprised to learn, that the members working there, aren't aware of being able to do this? I was even more suprised to learn, that people at their main library, Salt Lake City, weren't aware you could do this either? I have a good friend in Utah, that frequents their main headquarters and was very surprised too. I thought that was odd? Something else you may consider, if you go to the LDS library and order say marriage or birth records for a specific county, there is a charge, it used to be about $3.50?, to order the film. It stays at the library for I believe a couple weeks. HOWEVER, if you pay $9.00, not sure its still that amount, the film stays at the library INDEFINITELY, which means, I believe, that the church members then have the option of uploading all of that info onto their website. The christenings that came through on the IGI #'s for Jefferson Co.'s St. Peter Evangelical church, was the! film that I ordered to be there indefinitely because of my time restraints. I think? there are a couple of other people on this list, that may or may not be able to verify that. Also, use GOOGLE and do a search for IGI Batch #'s for whatever location you are looking for. There are people that have pulled batch numbers for locations all over the world. I did locate one person that has some batch numbers for other counties in KY, but I'm not sure how up to date they are. You can see them at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbersNA/SPKentucky.htm Hope this helps! Debbie P.S. If someone emails me and you don't get a reply right away....my server is sending me a new dsl modem because mine is wearing out :-) My service is being interrupted off and on.

    1. DENNIS family in Jefferson County: Sarah, Batson, Jesse
    2. Maureen
    3. I have an obit for a Sarah Ann Dennis who died in Nemaha County, Kansas, in 1941 and it states she was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1856 to parents Jesse E. and Mary Dennis. I have found this Dennis family in the 1860 census in Jefferson County, Louisville, Ward 8. However, I know of nothing else about Jesse E. and Mary. After Sarah's father died she and her mother (and perhaps other siblings) moved to Kansas and in 1883 Sarah married Lewis L. Smith (whose parents were William and Martha (Doyel) Smith, also of Kentucky). I also have another Kentucky connection, but am not sure which county I should be looking in: I have an ancestor by the name of Batson DENNIS, b. in 1796 who 'came from Henry County, Kentucky' and eventually settled in Kansas. It's my understanding the boundaries of Shelby and Henry county have changed often, so I'm not sure which county seat to be looking in; however, if anyone recognizes this Dennis name I'd appreciate hearing from them. I don't know of Batson's parents, but believe his father was born in Virginia around 1760 and was a surveyor - so I'd also appreciate hearing from anyone who knows of a surveyor by with the last name of Dennis. Lots of questions and perhaps some not relevant to this particular list - but I thank you for taking the time to read this. Maureen

    3. Hello listers, I have always tried to pull the batch #'s off of familysearch.org for Jefferson Co. I have to tell you, that someone recently, has done a ton of work at the Mormon church uploading Jeff Co. info, because there are several more batch #'s that I have JUST found in the last HOUR. If you haven't checked their site recently, you may want to do so. I am putting a "new" list together and will repost it here. Debbie

    1. Using familysearch.org
    2. Debbie
    3. Step by step - - - - 1. Go to www.familysearch.org 2. On the main screen, click on "Search for your ancestors in our vast collections." 3. On this page, there is a column to the left. Click on International Genealogical Index (this is the IGI) 4. On this page, in the area for the Batch Number, insert the batch number in. Under the Region, select the appropriate one, in this case, it would be North America. Under the Country, select United States, under State, select Kentucky. 5. You have the option of inserting the last name, you can a better search with just using the last name, HOWEVER, if for some reason the last name is misspelled, you won't get anything, therefore, if you like, DO NOT insert a name at all. If you do this, you will get the entire list of names for that batch number in the location that you inserted. I had submitted some batch numbers to Donnie for Jefferson Co. for various records and I believe to this list, but I'm not sure what he did with them?
