    3. There is no extant consents book for Calloway County. Only Marshall County has ome of these consent slips still existing. The marriage record of Liles/Agnew shows only "Consent of father" in the "Remarks for the Gentleman" column. It was fairly common practice for the clerk or deputy who recorded the issuance of the marriage license to write in only the phrase, "Consent of father/mother/guardian, etc.", when the parent or guardian came in with the child to given verbal consent. However, if the parent sent a consent slip with the child and did not accompany the couple to the courthouse to obtain the license, the clerk or deputy would often put this in the record: "Consent of father, John Jones". Clerks and deputies did not always follow these practices, and some did it more than others, but this general practice is why we often see nothing but "Consent of father/mother/guardian" with no names. -B ============================================================ At 08:15 PM 11/09/1999 -0800, you wrote: >Manassa Liles married Sally Agnew on June 2, 1830, in Calloway County. Both people had the consent of their fathers. This info. is from a published listing of the marriage records. Is there a published consent list? I need the name of Manassa's father. ============================================================
