My friends - Today, we honor those who fought, and died, to preserve the freedoms which we, and other nations for whom we have also fought, enjoy. I am making a special post today in remembrance of those who fought in the Civil War from Graves County, under the Confederate flag. Most of these pension applications were lost in the 1887 courthouse fire, but some survived and found their way to the KY Archives. Listed below are the names of some of the applicants from Graves County, whose applications are extant. If you see one which relates to your family, and you would like an abstract of the application's contents, let me know and I will get that out to you. I would ask that these requests be kept to no more than two applicants, given the lengthy nature of these documents. We should remember that a widow's pension app will contain more genealogically valuable material than will an application from a living veteran, but either is a good resource to have. We will do more of these Graves County Civil War pension applications in the future. As always, you help in not resending this entire message back to me with your request is greatly appreciated. We will finish out the week tomorrow with another in the Skills Puzzler series. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Graves County - Civil War Pension Applications Davis, Samuel W.
