I'm sure this has been dealt with before, but I can't seem to locate the information. What was the legal age of marriage for a man and woman to be married in Kentucky? Did the bride usually have the consent of a parent whether she was underage or not? Since many of my ancestors went to Tennessee to be married where there were no age or waiting requirements, was there a waiting period necessary between the license date and marriage date in Kentucky? If so, how long? What was the purpose of a bondsman on a marriage license? Was money actually exchanged with the bondsman, or was this a formality from earlier law? Does anyone have any idea of the legal costs involved of marrying in Ky vs marrying in TN? Thanks for answers to any or all of these queries. Malinda Hawthorne
