    3. Hi, Joyce, according to " History of Carlisle Co., KY for the years 1820-1900", Carlisle Co. was formed from Ballard in 1886. The description was a little hazy as to which part of Ballard became Carlisle but I will quote that section and let you decide. p. 1 "Between 1842 and 1886, Ballard County was dividied by the flow of Mayfield Creek. All territory between Mayfiedl Creek on the south and the Ohio River on the north was referred to as North Ballard (there is a church in that area by the name of North Ballard Baptisit Church), and all territory between Mayfield Creek on the north and Hickman County on the south was designated as South Ballard (also during that period there was a church known as the South Ballard Churc). The area of Carlisle County contains 198 square miles." Now, the book doesn't say so but from this I am assuming that the area formerly known as South Ballard is what became Carlisle County. Does anyone know this for sure? Donna On Sun, 16 Jan 2000, Roy and Joyce Collins wrote: > Bill, > > When was Carlisle County formed from Ballard?
