    3. I've learned the hard way that any time a name is spelled with "a" "o" or "u" always check for someone mistranscribing the letter as one of the other two. If the last name is Mc or Mac something always check with and without a space between the Mc/Mac and the other part of such a surname. Ex: McDADE and Mc DADE I finally found my gm COLE indexed as CALE in ME 1930 and my husband's gf McDADE as McLUDE in TN 1920. Part of the "D" was very faint (but I could see it on the copy of the microfilm) and the enumerator was very bad about his "a's" looking like "u's." Fortunately he was living in the small town where he was supposed to have been and I found him. Of course, he was on one of the last pages even so. I've also seen True indexed as Suie.
