Is anyone researching the family of the Jacob Gates who was living in Graves County at the time of the 1840 census? He died prior to 1853 when a suit between Allen Moody and the heirs of Jacob Gates was recorded in Graves County Order Book G. The heirs of this Jacob Gates appear, from the order book record, to be Mary J. (wife of Allen Bullock); the wife of D.W. Stark; the wife of William V. Boatright; son J.G. Gates; Mary Gates; Eliza A. Gates; the wife of John Morgan; and Celia (wife of Joseph H. Hudspeth). At least several of these heirs of Jacob Gates were in Prairie Co, AR, by the time of the 1860 and 1870 censuses. I am trying to learn what was the connection, if any, between Mary J., wife of P.J. Fore, and Joseph H. Hudspeth and his wife Celia Gates Hudspeth. The household of P.J. Fore was listed in the Graves Co, KY, census in 1850 and 1860 and was listed in the Prairie Co, AR, census in 1870. In 1865, Joseph H. Hudspeth, husband of Celia Gates, sold land to Mary J. Fore in Prairie Co, AR, shortly after the death of a woman reported as Eliza A. "Hudspeth," but who, I think, might have been instead Eliza A. Gates, sister of Joseph's wife Celia. If anyone is researching this family and is interested in the family of Celia Gates Hudspeth, I will be happy to share what I have found about Celia Gates Hudspeth's descendants. Thanks for any help anyone is able/willing to give me. Regards, Betty Ravenholt
