My friends - There have been several posts yesterday and today about the old Winchester Cemetery in Calloway County. I covered this cemetery in a posting several years ago, from the standpoint that the current cemetery location was very near the water's edge created by the Kentucky Lake Project in the 1930's. A number of graves were moved to avoid water intrusion. Shown below is the first "reading" of the cemetery in 1965 by the Calloway County Genealogical Society, as well as the TVA report on relocated graves. Hello, Perhaps someone can give some advice on trying to locate my ggrandfather's grave. I am looking for Wayne S. Smith b. 1833 in TN. He moved to the Trigg County KY area around 1875-1876. They were in the Golden Pond District of Trigg County, KY in the 1880 census. I finally found out my ggrandmother Mahalia/Mahala Paralee Smith died in childbirth in 1882 and the two of them are buried in Savells Cemetery in the LBL area. I cannot find any trace of my ggrandfather after that time. He had a stepson, her son, who stayed in that area named James Kilgore who lived to be 101 and died in Lyon County, KY in 1967. All of his children are deceased and the grandchildren I have reached do not know anything about Wayne Smith. He had a son John A. Smith who was a Ferry Boat or River Boat Captain but don't know about his family as I believe he had all girls. I found my ggrandmother buried by her middle name and am wondering if he might have used another name also. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I might look since KY didn't keep death records back that far? I do plan on going down there soon but was hoping to have some direction before going. Any help is appreciated.
