I would like to request the land grant data for JONES, Wm S from file 53. Thanks. Ruth
Bill, I have a copy of a land grant to one of my ancestors. It has a Homestead Certificate No. and and Application No. Where can I obtain a copy of the application and would it be of genealogical value to me. Thanks in advance, Sandy
I would appreciate any ancestral information on J. L(ewis) Franklin and his wife Nancy J. Winstead. Both appear in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 Graves County Census along with their family. I believe they lived in Water Valley. They appear in the 1880 Hickman County Census. Nancy J. Winstead was born 28 May 1823 in KY or AL or OH. She died 16 Jan 1893 and is interred in the Hickman County Cemetery in Clinto, KY along with Lewis Franklin who was born in 1809 in KY (maybe) and died in 1828. There is a Col. Thomas Everett Winstead (1895-1967) also interred in the Hickman County Cemetery who may be some relation to Nancy. Any information will be welcome. I would be happy to share what information I have on the Franklin descendents. They were my maternal and paternal great-great-grandparents. Amanda and all: I found an old posting by Amanda asking about the Smotherman Cemetery outside of Hazel. This is the story my 85 year old grandmother tells: When she was a little girl, her Aunt Martha Smotherman Jackson came for a visit. She wanted the old cemetery cleaned up. So they had a big family reunion and everyone came out and they cleared away the brush and spruced up the stones. My grandma says at the time there were a lot of cedar saplings and other larger growth. The stones were already crumbly and in disarray. Aunt Martha paid some one to come out and fence the property. They did not have an access gate put in as they all assumed that no one would ever come back to go there. However, they wanted to protect it from tractors and vandals. Granny didn't think you could even get to it anymore. You have to understand, this was not neglect of unconcern, but merely a lack of family. All of these people had either moved away or died by 1940. My grandmother was the only one left and she thought you couldn't get too it anymore. She was under the impression it was on private property with no access. And since Albert, Susan, and Annie, who she was closest too are all buried in Hazel, she really never had a reason to go back out there. Her grandparents raised her after her mother died and Annie was still living at home. Matter of fact, everyone thought Annie was granny's mother, and as granny said. She pretty much was. They were very, very close. Aunt Annie died in 1960 at grannies home. Her real mother Amy is buried at Barnett in Pottertown. I would be delighted to go and clean it up. I am going to be up there sometime next month. I'll get granny to ride with me out there and I will check it out. If it is accessible, I will go back in the fall when it has cooled off (its over 100 degress here in August) and after the snakes and assorted biting beasties are gone <VBG> and see what I can do. The main obstacle will be the old Iron Gate if it is still standing because we can't get a mower in there. But we could possibly get a gas weed eater. There are only a few graves. Aunt Martha Jackson's children, Aunt Mary Frances Smotherman McDaniels, Uncle Tom's daughters, and I believe the William is my Susan's Father. Although there is no record, I am pretty sure my William's wife Nancy is there also. It would be strange if she were not. But William has no stone and Nancy's is probably unmarked also. There is a Mary E. but I can't figure out who JM and Sarah are. I know there was a JG and Sarah which would make more sense.. So I don't know if this was a transcriber error or what. I hope this answers your concerns. Marsha nscriber error or what. I hope this answers your concerns. Marsha
Bill: First I want to compliment you on the wonderful service you do of posting these deaths, births and marriages. You are a the role model for list owners. I was just in the archives for previous years. I found the birth postings which said you could provide additional information upon request. In the 1852 posting I found Albert Smotherman and in 1853 Susan Smotherman. I would very much appreciate the information on these two as they are my Great Great Grandparents. I don't know if you have copies of the documents or just the information. I would love to have hard copies (I will gladly pay for) but would be grateful just for the information. The odd thing is that the vitals dates are exactly one year off of the family bible. Perhaps grandma had so many kids she didn't know what year it was. <VBG> If you would like, I have several documents (including the family bible page) and pictures. If you would like them posted or for the images page let me know how I need to get them to you. You can post the requested information or E-mail me privately. The information is no matter of national security and perhaps it would help someone else. Thank you again tremendously, Marsha Banasiewicz sly, Marsha Banasiewicz =20

My friends - As we begin this week, I am going to return to our review of early marriages in Calloway County. In past postings, we have worked our way from 1823 to 1838. Today, we will finish 1838 and begin 1839. If you see a marriage which interests you, and you would like the full dataset for that marriage(which normally includes the date of license, date of marriage, who performed the ceremony and the consents if required), let me know and I will forward that information to you. As always, your assistance in not resending this entire message back to me with your request is greatly appreciated. -B +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Early Calloway County Marriages - Part 29 McCord, Huston N. Marsha, I noticed you are looking for Brizendines. My great aunt from Mayfield, Graves C. (now in her 90s) married a Frank Brizendine from the JP area. My husband was researching his family and began a correspondence with a Brizendine. We asked if he was related to my connection and turned out he was a few generations back. He has a great deal of info on the family and loves to communicate with others about them. Email me for his email address. Cindy

Does anyone have information on this Sleaton/Slaton or Dis Hong family June 6 1799, Drury HODGES was Surety for Edmond Smith Sleator (this last name is probably SLEATON) and Susanah DIS HONG in Franklin Co. VA. "Marriage bonds of Franklin Co. VA 1786-1858" by Wingfield page 208 I believe that Edmond Smith Sleaton was related to John and Edmund Slayden listed below. Susananh HODGES was the daughter of Edmund HODGES & Nepathia Walker, Susananh married John SLAYDEN, who had among other children an Edmund SLAYDEN born 2/13/1777 and died 11/9/1841 in Hopkins Co. KY. His grave has E. SLATON. He is named in his fathers will as Edmund SLAYDEN, and in Edmond HODGES will as Edmond SLAYTON. Most Ky records show the spelling as SLATON thanks for the help ks for the help
Hi Victoria, Many thanks for answering my plea for Humphreys information in Henry and Calloway Co. I will love receiving anything at all on my relatives from that part of the country. My Humphrey grandmother died when my Mother was 10 years old and my grandfather left Ky in 1900 so we have very little information on their lives in that part of the country. Thank you, Fran Kerling frankerling@earthlink.net earthlink.net
Dear Marsha, Thank you for sending your Humphreys information. Although I don't see any familiar names on your lists I will print it out and maybe in the future something will 'click' Thank you, Frances Kerling =20
