Hi Bill, Would you please forward the data on the marriage of Ramsey, David Ramey, Rachel from the 1836 Hickman Co., KY, records. Searching for Meshew, Ramsey, Quarles and others in the Jackson Purchase area of KY. Respy, Ron Meshew, back in the "hot" North Carolina Sand Hills.
Can anyone tell why there would have been a migration from Weakley/Obion Co TN to Fulton/Graves Co KY about 1890 -1900.? It seems like a lot of my husband's folks on both sides of the family made the move about the same time .... and that was 2 generations before the connecting marriage. Just thought there may have been a particular reason. Jennifer
Bill, Please send me the info on these marriages: THOMPSON, Hugh C. PERCEL, Elizabeth (PURSELL?) THOMPSON, Augustus GRUNDY, Susan M. As always, thanks a lot. Jennifer Pursell
Has anyone ever heard of a group called "Lovelaceville Sharpshooters" that was active during the Civil War? They were mentioned in the publication "Confederate Veteran". Thanks, Betty E.
Could I please have more information on the following marriages: Harry, David H. & Bard, Nancy Pennebaker Ervin, William T. & Bard, Nancy Jane Davis, Garbriel & Guyn, Jane Thanks Sue Matheny matheny@apex.net
My friends - Today, we are going to continue our review of early Hickman County marriages. In past segments of this series, we had worked our way up to 1836, and, in this post, we will finish 1836, as well as 1837, and move into 1838. If you see a marriage record which is of interest, and you would like the complete data set for that marriage(which usually contains only the date of the marriage, although there are a few license dates and a few other miscellaneous notes on a few of these), let me know and I will forward that material to you. As always, your help in not resending this entire message back to me with your request is greatly appreciated. Tomorrow, we will finish out the week with the start of a new series of Tips on National Archives record groups. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Early Hickman County Marriages - Part 12 Silbert, Peter Stephens, Rebecca Ring, Murrie B. Debra: I lost your email address. Nancy N. Smith, wife of Jesse S. Harris had no sister named Lucy. Her parents were: Joshua and Elizabeth Searcy Smith of Hickman County. Husband Jesse Harris did not live long and she remarried a Lynch and then a Carpenter. If you would like to know her brothers and sisters names, please email me at dirdend@aol.com. I would be interested in your information on Henrietta. Thanks -- Deanne Dirden.
I just found in some notes that my husband's gr-gr- grandmother, Emma Carter Donnell, was a charter member of West Baptist Church in Hickman, and donated land for the first building, and lived right behind it. Could someone tell me where is the church located, might it have been farm land at one time, or was it pretty much 'in town'? Mary Emma Carter Donnell (b. ca. 1868) was married to John Robert Donnell. The family land was 'down near Brownville Road'. The Donnells had at least 3 children...Artie Donnell who married James Henry Pollock in 1903, and sons Archie and Thurman. In some newspaper listings, the name has been reported 'Darnell'. If anyone can fill in some blanks about this family, it would be appreciated. I am researching in the JP area the names Trusty, Donnell, Pollock, Hamby, Hart, Carter, Stubbs and Hiett. Cherilyn Trusty
My mother and her mother both have very unusal given names. Mother's is Ophus (Ophus McNutt Cook) and Grandmother's is Onie (Onie Garrett McNutt). I have been unable to link either of these names to anyone in particular, but there is possibility that it could go back to the maiden name of Onie's paternal grandfather, since I am still trying to locate who his parents are (John Washington Garrett, born: June 17, 1863 and died: October 4, 1929). Last week I put both names in the LDS files and came up with both of them being surnames. Ophus is German and Onie is English. Just a thought about a great puzzle. Glenda Cook Melson Lebanon, MO
Can someone please tell me about the James ARNOLDs aged 30-40 in western KY in the 1840 census? Thanks for any help! Jim
I need a lookup on the 1860 McCracken Co. census. If anyone has this and would do this, please e-mail me privately. Many thanks. Oleen
My friends - Every now and then, I find it necessary to mention again the guidelines under which the JP List operates. These are all found in the Welcome Message which anyone subscribing to this List receives, but occasionally events dictate the need for a gentle reminder. I have received, over the past few days, several messages from subscribers, expressing concern about some postings made by an individual who was basically passing along information on new sites on the Web for various types of subjects. Unfortunately, these posts were off-topic for this List, as the sites were not connected with the Jackson Purchase region of Kentucky. I had planned to address this matter with the poster today(and I have known the person for a long time), but prior to my being able to do so, she received a couple of private, negative messages about her postings from subscribers to this List. As a result, she has left the JP List. I want to re-emphasize the fact that if anyone has concerns about the appropriateness of a posting to the JP List, those concerns should be addressed to me, and not to the poster of the message(s) in question. It is part of my responsibility, as the host of this List, to deal with those sorts of things. Fortunately, such situations rarely occur. But when they do, I will investigate the situation and take whatever action is appropriate. If flames are involved, either sent to the List, or to the subscriber privately, the flamer can expect to be removed from the subscribership of this List. We have far too many good things to try to do here without getting involved in unpleasantness. The mission of the JP List is to discuss the genealogy and history of families which resided in the 8 counties of the KY JP - that is, Ballard, Carlisle, Calloway, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Marshall and McCracken counties. We do not get into other counties, such as Trigg, Christian, Livingston and other early western KY counties. There are other lists for those locales. We do see some overrun from the border counties in Tennessee, such as Obion, Sewart, Henry and Weakley counties, since there was so much traffic between the JP counties and these TN counties. But any extended discussion about that area needs to be done by private e-mail between the interested parties. We also try to avoid "chat" on the JP List. I created the KYJacksonPurchase-Lore-L list for that purpose - discussion of family stories, lore of the JP area, and just about anything else within reason. If you have a story about your family's past, please do put it on the Lore List - about 50% of the JP List subscribers also subscribe to the LORE List, so it will get good coverage. As the JP List continues to grow(we now have about 540 subscribers), we have to work a little harder and staying focused and on-topic. I continue to believe that we have one of the finest subscriberships of any List in the 16,000 list RootsWeb group. It continues to be my pleasure to work with all of you, as we go forward in the pursuit of those illusive ancestors who resided in the JP region. Now, with all of that said, back to rootin' -B ============================================================
I would like to know about any new sites that are going online, or have gone on line recently. I've seen your name often associated with different web sites and think you are doing a great job getting alot of information "out there". Thanks, Mary MacKenzie
I have just recently subscribed back to the list after my husbands illness and transplant and evidently I have offended a researcher by announcing the historical Western Ky pages that I have put on line. I like to offer my apologies to the mail list.. and if any one is interested in the new sites that are going on line they may contact me personally. Also if you would like to host a ALHN county for Kentucky - I am the Ky coordinator for this project. Dealing with history and genealogy. *******KYSEEKER********
Hi Betty What new sites are going on line? And why would any reasonable researcher be offended by any new sites that may help in everyone's research? What is ALHN?
