Hello All: Thought I would share a site I found if any of you are looking for your Ancestor's Military Service Pension Information From 1835 in Virginia. The address I am giving you will need to be modified to suit you needs. At _b.text please replace the b with the initial of the surname you are searching. This will take you to that alpha index. (Unless of course your ancestors are B's then you are set) http://www.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/va/pensions/vapen_b.txt This address will obviously take you to the B's. If this does not work, go to the usgenweb archives, search Virginia for Pensions. Also there is a book entitled "Virginia Revolutionary Pension Applications - Washington DC" It is in several volumes evidently. I only have the transcript and the web site I mentioned is an Index of the 1835 Pension Roll. I hope this information will be useful. Marsha

Please send file LG851 for M surnames for JP Land Grants. Thanks!
Have new info about MALLIE LATHAM ( WILLIAM M. LATHAMS BROTHER) and his wife SARAH COURTNEY from Graves Co. William M. was married to Sarah Davis. Also info about Tennie and Frank Burgess children and their families. If interested, please contact me via private e-mail. RobRe325@aol.com Renee Evans
Bill, is it appropriate here to ask for more info on the following couple? I found these archived in the KJP list area and if you have time, please send me more ino. They were from marriages in 1852, Graves County. Potts, E. Vicus, E. Thanks, Dotti
My friends - I have just converted a short file from my "miscellaneous" collection of several hundred floppies. This file contains a listing of the burials at the Oak Hill (also know as the "Parker") Cemetery in Calloway County. There are about 48 burials in this cemetery. Surnames include Dyer, Collins, Cook, Hall, Lyons, Moody, Moore and a number of Parker people. The earliest birth year shown is for Joseph J. Parker, born 1824, followed by Joseph Dyer, born in 1840. If you would like a copy of this file, let me know and I will get it to you via an attachment to an e-mail message unless you request that it be sent as a straight e-mail. -B ============================================================
My friends - I now have another installment prepared in our ongoing series of Jackson Purchase Land Grants. This segment covers more of the "M" surnames, specifically, Morris, Mott, Mobly/Mobley, Mosbey, Moody, Motheral, Moyers, Moss, Montgomery, Morefield, Molder, Mullins and Murphy. If you would like a copy of this file, let me know and I will get it to you. Please request *File LG851". I will send it as a plain text attachment to an e-mail message, unless you specify that you need it as a straight e-mail message(which often tends to skew the columnar alignments). You will receive the complete file. Time constraints will not allow me to go into the file and extract individual surnames. The other JP land grants text files which are available are shown on the JP Land Grants web site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygraves/JPGrants.htm I am currently working on another file from my miscellaneous collection and will be back with that offering shortly. -B ============================================================
Richard, Thanks so much for posting the Bowman Cemetery list. I found several of my Scott ancestors there. -----Original Message----- From: Richard Davis <eagle6@brtc.net> To: KYJacksonPurchase-L@rootsweb.com <KYJacksonPurchase-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, August 19, 1999 8:10 PM Subject: [KYJacksonPurchase-L] Cemetery List: Bowman Cemetery in Calloway County near Murray, Kentucky > >==== KYJacksonPurchase Mailing List ==== >Check out the Jackson Purchase Images Page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygraves/temp/JPL.htm >for landowner survey maps of portions of the Jackson Purchase, plus other images. My friends - Shown below are the e-mail addresses of those of you who have expressed a definitive interest in attending a "homecoming" event next year in the Jackson Purchase region. These subscribers are from all three lists which I host. If your address is not shown on this list, and it should be, let me know so that I can add it. Conversely, if your address is shown and it should *not* be, then let me know about that also, so that I can remove it. I will be creating a mailing list for updates on the JP Homecoming event(it will not be a RootsWeb based list, but rather messages that will be sent to multiple e-mail addresses). I am doing this so that we will not "clog" the JP List with discussions about the event. The 400+ subscribers who have not expressed an interest in attending can then avoid having to read and/or delete all of the messages that may ensue concerning the planning of this gathering. I will occasionally post a brief comment to the JP List, in case we have new subscribers who may wish to join us, or other subscribers who had been uncertain about whether they could attend. My friends - Tonight, we will close out the week with a continuation of our look at some of the lesser known, but often very valuable, records in the National Archives. We are currently reviewing Record Group 94 - Records of the Adjutant General's Office. In the last post, I discussed the general scope of Record Group 94. In this installment, I am going to give you some of the more interesting subgroups of records which are held within Record Group 94 that have genealogical possibilities. I will continue this overview in the next few posts, and then close out Record Group 94 with information on how to obtain records which we have discussed. Here are some of the record subgroups with potential genealogical data: -Muster Rolls of Volunteer Organizations - War of 1812. Arranged alphabetically by state -Muster Rolls of Volunteer Organizations in Various Indian Wars and Other Incidents Requiring the Employment of Troops - 1811-1858. This group includes muster rolls for Volunteers in the Black Hawk War(1831-32), the Whiskey Rebellion in PA(1794), the Patriot War(1838-1839). -Muster Rolls of Volunteer Organizations: Civil War, Mexican War, Creek War, Cherokee Removal, and Other Wars. Contains the same type of content as the last item. -Amnesty Papers - 1865. Individual letters of application of Confederates for pardon and amnesty in response to President Andrew Johnson's proclamation of 29 May 1865, along with other associated papers for each case. -Registers of Deceased Soldiers, Volunteers - 1861-1864. Gives name, rank, unit, date of death, cause and place of death, by whom report was forwarded, inventory and clothing account and remarks. -Registers of Discharges for Invalids - 1862-1863. Gives name, rank, date of enlistment, period of enlistment, regiment and date and cause of discharge. -Enlistment Papers - 1798-1912. Two subgroups of papers cover the periods 1798- 1894 and 1984-1912. Gives name, place of enlistment, date, by whom enlisted, age occupation, personal description, regimental assignment and certifications of the examining surgeon and recruiting officer. -Register of Applications for Officers of Colored Troops 1864-1866. Gives name, rank, regiment, State, station, and date of receipt of application, with file notes and remarks indicating approval or disapproval. In the next installment, we will discuss "carded" records in RG 94. As usual, there will be no data posts per se over the weekend, but I hope to drop by with another in the Jackson Purchase Land Grants series, as well as a bit more on the JP Homecoming event. -B ============================================================
Bill, could you please send the information of the following marriages. Thankyou! > Knight, Nathan B. > Clayton, Jane > Miller, Jones F. > Kirk, Lair J.B. > Bratten, William H. > Hale, Martha E. >Thankyou!
I am new to this list and have been very impressed with the info that is here! Thanks! I have a question. I was interested in the Bowman Cemetery list that came out today and wanted to know, as a relatively new to genealogy person, how accurate are the cemetery list dates? I have the family bible that belonged to Albert Petty Thompson's family (handed down in my family) and his birth date there is listed as March 3,1829 (not March 4, 1829) and the date of his first wife Mary Bowman is listed as June 1, 1831 (not June 14, 1931). His second wife and son, Horace A. were listed correctly as I have them. It could be that the bible records are not as accurate as they should be, I guess! I have family papers that state that Albert (Bert) P. Thompson was first buried at "The Pines",in Paducah, KY, his parent's homeplace (which later passed to my Quarles family from his mother,Aunt Alice Petty Thompson). After his death on the streets of Paducah in 1864, the family was afraid that his grave might be disturbed if he was buried in a cemetery so they had a quiet burial at home. Several years later, there was a hugh procession that moved him from "The Pines" to Bowman Cemetery. This was recalled by my great aunt, who followed the procession as a child. Thanks again for a very informative and interesting forum! How do I acceses the JPL Lore archives? Lucy Manson
Everyone has been so helpful in the past...Maybe someone can help me again... On the death certificate of Joseph Martin Tibbs (son of Josiah Tibbs) it lists his Mother as Bell Breedlove. The funny thing about that, is the comment on the certificate to the effect that this is "as one is acertain". This was stated by his brother John. (This must be John J. Tibbs, also of Graves Co.) All along we've had the Mother of both these men as Maryann Johnson. Can someone out there tell us what that term means? Thanks as always for your help, Bette (New) Sousa Fremont, Ca.

Hello group, I will be out of town effective immediately, until next Wed. the 29th. I would appreciate it if any lookup requests, pertaining to my areas from Graves Co., could be held until that time, to help keep my mailbox a little lighter. Thanks for any and all cooperation. Mike F
My friends - We broke a record with last night's data post on the 1840 Graves County Census. I received 104 requests for age enumerations. The old record was in the 80's. As a result, I still have about 50 more requests to fill, which should take up another couple of hours. Rather than carry any of them over, I will not make a data posting tonight, in order to allow me to complete the filling of these requests today. We will end the week tomorrow with another in the "Tips" series. -B ============================================================
