    1. Re: [KYJP-L] Rev. War Soldiers in KY(Quisenberry), Hickman Cty
    2. Ms. Adams, Please tell my favorite "cousin," Maria Jane, that I said, "Hello." And, thanks, to you, for sending the message, and all the others, too. I do not think that Bill Utterbach mentioned anything over and above the pension application information. However, John Bone, Jr., was also listed with the SC Line. It is this association that I find interesting. John Bone testified for Jesse Messhew in 1834, when he applied for the pension. I'm searching. Might be far out. By the way, Maria Jane, I plan on retiring come the first of February, and I want to further study our "stone wall"......who were Jesse's parents. When I send my "Christmas Note," I will send some notes that I have on land records, and propose a theory or two as to possible connections. Have you heard from Howard Meshew lately? Hope your boys are all fine, and you, and Margaret. Hope this finds all of Hickman Co. well and hardy. My regards, Ron Meshew

    1. Re: [KYJP-L] Rev. War Soldiers in KY(Quisenberry), Hickman Cty
    2. Michele, Really, I do not feel I am related to the Bone's. However, one of the "Bone's boys" testified in behalf of my GGGGF, Jesse Messhew, when he applied for a Rev War Pension in the 1830's. Now, I figure that since one was from SC Line, as was my GGGGF, there might be a link of some nature back to help me crack my "Stone Wall", finding out who my GGGGF's parents were, anad where they were from. It gives me another "avenue" to pursue, or it might. What is your relation to John Bone, Jr., and Jone Bone, Sen., and do you have any info regarding their past homesites, etc? Particularily, SC or NC or VA? I know my GGGGF said that he came from the Upper PeeDee River country, when he joined Marion's troops in Georgetown, SC, and then went to help build Fort Moultrie, on the north side of Charleston Harbor. He then served with Marion, on and off for four or five tours. After the war activities, he was granted a land grant in Lancaster Co., SC, from the SC Governor. That is what I know is written on the "wall" that I am confronted with. If you can shed any light, I would appreciate it. Ron Meshew

    1. [KYJP-L] Information
    2. Roy and Joyce Collins
    3. Dear Bill, This is a genealogy question (or two) in general. You seem to be quite knowledgeable about these things. In researching my ancestors that came to Kentucky from other parts (Tennessee, North Carolina etc.) I have come across statements that they were tithable. My question(s) is what does titheable mean and what was the age for being titheable for a male in the late 1700's early 1800's. Also at what age could a male own land. Joyce

    1. [KYJP-L] Watts Family in Eastern Hickman Co.
    2. Hi All, I am glad to be a new member of this list. I am Janice Watts Lester of Nashville, Tn. I am researching my Watts ancestors of Hickman Co. Ky. As near as I can remember they all lived around Watts Crossing railroad on Hwy. 58. My great aunt Verna Watts, kept up with them all and I have copies of her notes, thanks to my uncle, Mack Watts. I can go back as far as Jordon Wright Watts who was born in Halifax Va. It is there that I am stumped. Jordon somehow got to Hickman Co. and married Nancy Godwin who was from Tenn. Does anybody know anything about either family? I am pretty new at geneology, and am fortunate to have these records to organize. Thanks for any help you can give me. Sincerely Janice Watts Lester Nashville, Tn.

    1. [KYJP-L] Graves County - Vital Statistics Records - 1852-1859 - Births - Part 16
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I trust that everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving holiday. Now, onward toward Christmas. As we resume data postings today, we are returning to our review of Graves County Vital Statistics births in the period 1852-1859. In prior installments in this series, we had worked our way up to the year 1855, and we will continue with this year in tonight's segment. I probably should take a moment to again remind all of us that these early vital statistics records in KY are woefully inaccurate and incomplete, so use their facts with caution, and always try to have another reliable record as a corroboration(or as indication of error in the VS records). Only about 40%-50% of the births, marriages and deaths which occurred in KY counties in this time period ever found their way into these VS records. In Graves County, sadly, due to the courthouse fire in 1887, these VS records are, in many cases, the only data available on some of these people. If you see a name in the list below which is of interest to you, and you would like the full dataset for that individual(which normally, but not always, includes the sex of the child, if not obvious, date of birth, and name of father and maiden name of mother), please let me know and I will forward that information on to you. As is usual, your assistance in not resending this entire message back to me with your request is greatly appreciated. We have had some 9 new subscribers join us in the past few days, and I want to welcome them to our family, and invite them to post their research needs for the 8 counties of the KY Jackson Purchase region here to the List. Among our 580 subscribers, there will very likely be someone who is working on the same lines and the sharing of information is usually worthwhile for both parties. The JP FAQ Page is available for your "Frequently Asked Questions" about the region, as is the JP Images website(both URL's were given in the Welcome Message). Our new subscribers are also invited to visit the searchable JP List Archives, located here: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=KYJacksonPurchase-L These Archives contain the nearly 3000 messages which have been posted here since the inception of this List two years ago, as well as my 300+ data posts. Again, welcome. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Graves County - Vital Statistics Records - 1852-1859 - Births - Part 16 M=Male F=Female Tucker, Nancy F. 1. [KYJP-L] Scotts of Hickman County
    2. Hi JP List, Samuel H. SCOTT b. 1793 in Virginia came to Hickman County in 1822-23. He "homesteaded" or was given 160 acres on the Bayou de Chein watercourse and lived there until 1856-57 when he and his family migrated again to Lawerence County, Missouri. Samuel married a Catherine G. (?) in 1835. They had 11 children: Lucy, Susan, Eliza, Thomas T., Winfield (male), Virgil, John, Martha, William, Charna and Pocohantas. His oldest son Thomas T. SCOTT b. 8-18-1834 remained in Hickman County and raised a large family. He married Emely C. JONES (b. 1-5-1838 in Va. d. 3-5-1885) on May 18, 1858 in Hickman County. Their children were: William W. ; Henry, George, James, John, Hollie, Walter Houston, Edna, Ogden, Alfred Alexander, and Nellie. I have a report that Samuel H. had been previously married in Virginia to a Elizabeth PEGRAM in Dinwidde Co. Va. and that he migrated to Hickman County in the company of a female named Winfield SCOTT, who alledgedly was the daughter of Gen. Winfield SCOTT and Lucy BAKER (who died in 1816). According to the report Winfield (the daughter), marries in 1829, at the age of 15 in Hickman County. I have been unable to confirm the SCOTT-PEGRAM connection. There are no Hickman County records that I have found to the Winfield story or marriage. The story is that she later went to Texas. Also unable to tie Samuel H. to his roots..... Would be glad to share with anyone about this family...... Gene Scott Atlanta

    1. [KYJP-L] New JP Land Grants Text File Now Available - "M" Surnames (Part) - File LG847
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I am dropping by today to let you know that I have another JP land grants file available. This one covers more of the "M" surnames, specifically, Merewether/Meriwether/Meriwither, Metcalf(e), Marshall, Meucer, Meshew, Melton, Meacham, Merrett, Megary, Melburn, Medber(r)y, Menus, Melson, Megehee, Merrifield and Metts. If you would like a copy of this file, please request *File LG847*. I will forward it as a plain text attachment to an e-mail message, unless you request *straight e-mail* (which tends to skew the columnar alignments). You will receive the entire file - time constraints do not allow me to go into the file and extract data for individual surnames. We now have about half of the 9000+ JP land grants available. The JPGrants web site, which lists all of these files which are available to JP, Hickman and Marshall county lists subscribers, can be found here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygraves/JPGrants.htm -B ============================================================
