    1. [KYJP-L] Miscellaneous Files - Graves County - Cuba Baptist Church Cemetery & Martin Cemetery
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I have been poking around in my old floppy disk collection and found a couple of cemeteries in Graves County that I have converted into plain text files. These are the Cuba Baptist Church Cemetery and the old Martin Cemetery. The Cuba cemetery has burials of folks with birth years as early as 1837. It is midrange in size, with about 75 burials. Surnames of interments there include Redden, Jordan, Mathis, Blalock, Griffith, Pickard, Wright, Creighton, Watts, Cates, Shelby, Hart, Williams, Martin, Boyette, James, Murphy, Glisson, Emerson, Perry, Prince, Dobson and a few others. The old Martin Cemetery has only 11 marked graves, although there are others in that cemetery which are unmarked. The surnames in this Cemetery include Martin, Colley, McIntyre and Farmer. The earliest birth year in this cemetery is about 1815. Subscribers to the lists I host can get either of these files by contacting me and requesting them by name. Time constraints won't allow me to extract data about individuals from these files, so you will receive the complete listing. I will send it as a plain text attachment to an e-mail message, unless you indicate that you need to have it as a *straight* e-mail message. I'll be back tomorrow with the solution to the latest Skills Puzzler. -B ============================================================

    1. Re: [KYJP-L] Ray family
    2. Brenda Parker
    3. Diane, I regret that I don't know much about this family. According to a distant cousin, William D Ray's father was Robert. I have William R, so Robert must be his middle name. All I know about Robert's wife, Barbara, is what I got from the 1850 Gibson Co, TN census - she was 44 years old, born in NC. My information on Wm R Ray is from 1830, 1840, and 1850 Gibson Co, TN, census. I have not explored that county further. The children were born between 1832 and 1839, so one could presume that they were born in Gibson County, but I have not looked. So many ancestors, so little time.... I would love to hear if this helps you at all. Brenda Wm R Ray was my great-great-great grandfather. Diane McGee wrote: > Dear Brenda, > Do you know who the parents were of William Ray? 1. Re: [KYJP-L] RAY-HUTCHINS marriage, ca. 1850
    2. Brenda Parker
    3. Debra, I do not know where Wm Ray and Martha Hutchins were married. I have that Martha was born in TN near the KY line, and she is listed in the 1850 Calloway Co census with her father Rowland Hutchins. Wm and Martha's first child was born in 1854 in Calloway County. I found Rowland Hutchings in the 1840 Calloway county census, and Rowlin Hutchings in 1830 Calloway County. The 1850 census says Rowland was born in SC. Martha's siblings had the initials E (female), T F ( male), M (male), and R (male). All say born in KY. Rowland was married to Nancy Wells, born around 1815 KY according to 1850 census. Hope this helps. Brenda Rowland Hutchins is my great-great-great grandfather.

    1. [KYJP-L] RAY-HUTCHINS marriage, ca. 1850
    2. Lowe
    3. Hello, Brenda. I read your RAY family posting with interest. Do you know where Wm RAY and Martha HUTCHINS were married ca. 1850? Could it have been in Graves County? My HUTCHINSON family was living in Graves at that time and we have two "missing" Hutchinson sisters. Martha was a common name for women in the Hutchinson family (as I'm sure it was in many families of that era). -Debra Lowe

    1. [KYJP-L] John PEEBLES
    2. Lowe
    3. (Sorry to bother the list with this, but Don's email address ToodlesNTaz@webtv.net "bounced"...) Hello, Don. We exchanged emails earlier this year about some papers you have from a house that belonged to John Wm PEEBLES. Some of the papers concerned W.D. SENTER, a person who had the same surname as Oregon/Oregan SENTER daughter-in-law (and her mother Caroline SENTER) of my Great Grandparents John and Lucy HUTCHINSON. While reviewing yesterday some Graves Co. census records for my cousin Roberta, I ran across a possible PEEBLES connection. Roberta's ancestor is Sarah Jane (HUTCHINSON) MYERS, John Hutchinson's sister. Roberta had copied a 1870 Graves census record for a white household (113/115, Boswells Precinct, Post Office Fa--y Fa---y [can't read it]) of John PEEBLES, Farmer, age 76. In John Peebles household is Senisa/Leona (? - can't read it) MYERS, age 36. I don't know how Senisa/Leona may be related to Sarah Jane H. MYERS, but I think is all a bit too much to be just a coincidence. The W.D. SENTER paper you scanned and sent to me has the dates 1858-1864 on it. John Robert HUTCHINSON was married to Oregan SENTER by 1880. Do you have anything more amongst the PEEBLES papers that might shed light on all of this? As you know, Graves Co. is a Black Hole when it come to records, so we have to follow every clue. Thank you for your help. Debra Lowe

    1. [KYJP-L] Bubble Boy Worm
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I have today received messages from a couple of our subscribers indicating that they have received the bubbleboy.exe worm from others on the JP List. Unfortunately, in both cases, the recipients, in their haste to delete the message with its attachment, did not get the addresses of those who had sent the messages. I rarely bring virus or worm news here to the List, as you know, since 99% of them are hoaxes, or of such little danger as to be non-newsworthy. These viruses and worms cannot, in almost every case, do any damage unless the recipient clicks on the attachment and executes the file in which the virus or worm is lurking. Deleting the message, with its attachment, eliminates any chance of infection. I will not open any attachment that comes to me with an .exe extension, regardles of who originated it. For your information, a sketch of the bubbleboy worm is shown below. If you have any concerns, please communicate with me by private e-mail. There is no need to have any discussion of this, or any other virus/worm, on the List itself. -B +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ BubbleBoy is an Internet worm that requires Internet Explorer 5 with Windows Scripting Host installed (WSH is standard in Windows 98 and Windows 2000 installations). It does not run on Windows NT due to hard-coded limitations. BubbleBoy is embedded within an email message of HTML format and does not contain an attachment. BubbleBoy is written in VB Script. There are two variants; the .b variant is encrypted. In MS Outlook, BubbleBoy requires that you "open" the email. BubbleBoy will not run if using "Preview Pane". In MS Outlook Express, the worm is activated if "Preview Pane" is used! After the VB Script executes, BubbleBoy writes the file UPDATE.HTA to the local machine and during the next Windows startup, the .HTA file is invoked. The UPDATE.HTA file is coded to do the following- · Change the registered owner via the registry to "BubbleBoy" · Change the registered organization to "Vandelay Industries" · Send itself embedded in an email message to every contact in the address book of Microsoft Outlook · Sets the registry key to indicate that the email distribution has occurred. This will prevent itself from continuously re-sending the emails The message sent by BubbleBoy looks as follows: From: (name of infected user) Subject: BubbleBoy is back! Body: The BubbleBoy incident, pictures and sounds <http://www.towns.com/dorms/tom/bblboy.htm>http://www.towns.com/dorms/tom/b blboy.htm The page that the URL refers to does not exist, however it seems that it should refer to <http://www.toptown.com/dorms/rick/bblboy.htm>http://www.toptown.com/dorms/r ick/bblboy.htm which is a web page with details of the "Bubble Boy" episode of the Seinfeld TV series. To protect yourself from BubbleBoy and similar viruses, you should download the patch released by Microsoft Corporation on their website.

    1. [KYJP-L] Skills Puzzler # 34 - Where Was He Born?
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - We are going to close out this week's data posts with another in the Skills Puzzler series. I try to alternate the Puzzlers with the Tips series, but I have this "extra" Puzzler at hand, and I am going to go ahead and present it, and then we will get caught up on the Tips series next time around. Every genealogist, if he/she works at it for awhile, will be presented with situations in which it really appears that an ancestor did not know what state in which he/she was born. When the census population schedules began to ask for the state of birth, we often see an ancestor state, for example, in the 1850 census, that he was born in KY, then, in 1860, he says he was born in VA, and, perhaps in the 1870 census, he tells the census taker that he was born in North Carolina or Tennessee. In many cases, we are unable to determine why these various places of birth were given in different census years, for the same person. Occasionally, however, if we know what we are looking for, we can explain a few of these occurrences. Our scenario involves Josiah Jackson. According to some of his descendants, as well as one document dated 1821(a small piece of paper which the family had in their possession, apparently torn out of a book, with the year written, and the words, "Josah Jackson born AD 21 April 1786 Wayne Co., North Car") he was born in Wayne County, NC in 1786. He lived to the ripe old age of 94 and died in Johnson County, TN in 1880. In the 1850 census of that county, he returned his place of birth as NC. In 1860, he indicated he was born in TN and in 1870, he also said TN. In the 1880 census - and he was still alive when the census taker came around, he said he was born in NC. His granddaughter, who knew him well, insisted, years later, that he told her numerous times that he was born in TN. On the other hand, a county history with Josiah's biographical sketch in it, states that he was born in NC. Our task, using only what we have above, is to make a determination as to which of the two states - NC or TN - was most probably the place of his birth, and why we come to that conclusion. If you would like to opine on this one, you can send it to the List, or to me privately. I'll return with the solution over the weekend. As is customary, there will be no data posts per se on Saturday or Sunday, but I hope to be able to get another file of some type prepared and offered, if time permits. -B ============================================================

    1. [KYJP-L] Need some help finding a marriage record
    2. Does anyone have any idea where I may look to find a marriage record for my great grandmother, Nellie Green Orr to Robert Lee Bennett. I found her bible record while visiting my Mom over Thanksgiving and it shows her being married on Nov. 28, 1906 in Fulton, KY. But when I sent away for a copy of it from Fulton County, they said they had no record. I don't even know where to look at this point. Happy Holidays to all on the list and my the year 2000 bring all of us great luck in finding our missing ancestors. A very special thanks to Bill Utterback and all he does for this list. He has helped me enormously just from all his tips and extras he adds. Thanks, Gayle :)

    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - Today, we are returning to our review of the early Hickman County marriage records. In prior segments of this series, we have advanced from 1822 to 1839, and we will finish that year in tonight's posting. If subscribers to the lists I host see a couple in which they have an interest, and would like the complete dataset(which, unfortunately, usually consists of only the marriage and/or license date, with the occasional consent or surety)for that listing, let me know and I will forward that on to you. As always, please refrain from resending this entire message back to me with your request. Tomorrow, on the JP List, we will close out the week with either another in the terminology series, or another Skills Puzzler. And, BTW, the Jackson Purchase Homecoming 2000 Planning Committee is continuing to make early preparations for our bug event next year. Those of you on the special attendees e-mail out list will be receiving some news in the near future. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hickman County - Early Marriages - Part 16 Henley, Wilson Sullivent, Elizabeth Doughaday, Thomas Cloar, Elizabeth Carrol, Thomas Rodan, Hilsay Vaughan, Joseph Thedford, Carry Dodson, Jonathan Coffman, Lavilla Cresap, J.M. Mrs. Maria Jane MESHEW WATTS, of Hickman, KY, also contributed to the write up....in fact, she was accepted into the DAR based on her work of the MESHEW family. Jesse MESHEW was a SC Rev. soldier with Marion, the Swamp Fox. Thanks for the return note, and for spurring me on to looking again.

    2. a J. Meshew b. 1844 wed to Joseph Allen Womble b. I Can't help with that but I know of a Joseph Glover born late 1700 married to Celia Womble in NC they are in Calloway KY by 1830 to 1840 then she is alone in Graves KY. on the 1850 just having applied for widows pension. What is interesting is I don't have any proof yet but one of there grandsons Robert Glover married Eliza A. Williams in McCracken County 1865? Celia states she was born in VA on the 1850 census. Wonder if these two are connected somehow. Thanks Sharon
